By accident I left my safety glasses at home when I went to the rifle range, and bought a pair of theirs which were yellow lenses. It was misty overcast weather and they seemed to brighten everything. Of course many of you are aware of that, but I had never worn any and thought these would be good for hunting too? Do you guys use them hunting in certain kinds of weather or habitat?

I sure do. My sunglasses are prescription, safety, and yellow tint. I like em because some colors show up better on cloudy days.

They are wonderful on overcast days, and you can see down thru the timber better with them, too. I've been using them for years.

As far as that goes, they're good for driving on overcast days, too. They really brighten things up.

I started using yellow safety glasses yrs ago for work and wasn't long switching over using them for hunting as well. They're especially good at keeping pokey branches out or your eyes whilst bird hunting.

I bought a pair of light purple lense safety glasses and will compare with the yellow lenses in the timber and on the grassy plains.

Purple will also diminish the background greens.

From Ranger shooting glass website:

Light Purple
Lens Color: Light Purple #47
Luminous Transmission: 57%
Lens Class: Standard, High-impact Polycarbonate

Provides light contrast of orange targets against green or blue backgrounds
Dampens the greens and blue sky
Available for all frame styles
Best used in low light and overcast conditions in a wooded areas or for night shooting under lights

This really tells the tale on light transmission. If you're losing light, you're losing light. Higher contrast can accentuate some things and off set some lost light. In the end you want as much light and/or as as much contrast as possible for the situation (assuming low light early/late).

I switch to clear early and late. Any colored lens will reduce light transmission, and therefore cause the eye to dilate. Dilation in very low light situations will cause visual acuity to suffer.
