A dealer told me today that Barrett is no longer making the 7-08 Fieldcraft. I am looking for one for my son and have called Barrett but keep getting sent to a voicemail with no return calls. Anyone hear anything on future availability?

I spoke to them 5 months ago and they told me they were having supply problems with the 7mm barrels and they would be available again in a few months. That was 5 months ago.

I hate to here that. 7mm-08 is a natural for the Fieldcraft.

Yes, seems like nice combo. I can’t warm up to the creed so might have to try a Kimber out. Lots of options out there.

Not entirely sure if Barrett is currently producing any Fieldcrafts, as it’s been said they are focusing on a large mil rifle contract. Someone here already posted that they had spoken with someone at Barrett who advised that their 280 Ackley Fieldcraft plans have been shelved for now. Since the two share a common .284 hole in the barrel, this may be the fate of the 7mm-08 as well. Let us know if Barrett confirms this or not.

That was me that spoke to Barrett.
I was contemplating going with the Fieldcraft in 6.5Creedmoor but I've got a Tikka T3X Superlite in 6.5Creed so I went with 270Win instead.

In fairness...a Teeker 270 Win,cain't keep pace with a Teeker 264 Kreedmire,by literal design. Hint. Congratulations?!?

Though in fairness,it will be louder and recoil more. Hint...................

Likewise. There are two chamberings i’ll pull the trigger on with fieldcraft, the 7mm-08 and the .223. The 6.5creed would be fine but for not wanting another one-off chambering here. Appears will be waiting a while vs rebarrel on the former.

22-250's are getting harder to find, too.......or at least not as common.

Every time I call Barrett with a question I get a different answer depending on who I talk to.

The 280 is definitely an elf. The 7/08 ... dunno. Have been told different things as well.

I’m not sure anyone at Barrett really knows what’s going on with the fieldcraft!

I have extended myself and bought several in different cartridges with the idea that they may be hard to find or non-existent in the near future.

You may be correct.
From my last conversation with them it sounds like the popular chamberings (6.5, 308, 270, ‘06) will continue to be stocked while some of the other offerings will be done on a “when we have enough orders” basis. The gentleman I spoke with stopped short of saying “discontinued” ... but ...

I would definitely like to grab another 7/08 (for my wife, of course!) grin
