I got out this weekend for a general season OTC elk hunt. Saturday I only seen a few cows but Sunday I caught a herd in a clearcut at first light. Rem. 700 in 300RUM, 200 gr accubond over 95.5gr of Retumbo for 3175fps. 100 yard shot, I'm surprised the bullet was just under the offside skin. This is the first accubon I've caught 124.5gr I'm defiantly getting to old to pack out elk by myself, that was a lot of work.

Nice work Jamie, bullet looks great..
Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.
Ain’t easy havin pals.

Killed a nice 6x6 years ago with the same caliber and bullet. Mine took out a shoulder at 167 yards and was in the 50% weight retention range.
Congrats on a beautiful bull. Well done

Any elk, especially an OTC bull, is something to be proud of. Nice one!

Congrats.. you sure don’t see shepherds very often. It took 2 years of load development to get the ballistics to match the scope. I found several loads with different powders that are stupid accurate but not fast enough.

Thanks for the congrats guys . One of my hunting partners died a couple of years ago and the hunting party broke up so now I'm elk hunting solo. I like hunting alone until meats on the ground and then hunting partners would be nice.

You have to be a pretty stubborn person to get one shooting as advertised, my late uncle was such a guy. I don’t think he ever got that thing squared away. Seeing yours brought back some good memories. I used to give him so much [bleep] about that scope.

WTG! Tickled for you, Jamie!
I have now moved to WA State and my boys even had my old bones out watching an elky hillside over the weekend. No way I could pack one out now with my health problems but they promise to fetch it for me. I shot a flat land blacktail with a shotgun (what is the world coming to?!), called on cell phone and two grandsons came 1 1/2 mile behind a locked gate to fetch the deer and even carried my shotgun. I could get used to this kind of service!
You have a dandy elk, especially in low odds west side WA!
