The cane patch again,....I know,..I know,...sore subject.

But anyway,...I've got the cane patch down, but there's an absolute matrix of cane Rhysomes (root structure) residing about 6" inderground where the cane patch was.

Tractor Supply has just one of those little category 1 subsoilers left.

Let's take a vote.

Will my 8N rip that Countyline brand subsoiler through those cane roots?

Ordinarily, I'd think that it would,...but them damn cane roots are *tough*! I hooked my single bottom plow onto the tractor and those Rhysomes just made the wheels spin.

I'm going to buy it and try it, anyway,......but I'm wondering if you folks think it'll do the trick.

What ya say?

There's a vote for spending that $200 on chicken pot pies.

A subsoiler will also bury itself and stand that tractor on it`s butt, if you are not careful. Keep your foot on the clutch.

Or maybe spend it on $200 of well-marbled cats...

I figured Jim Conrad would have jumped in here by now,...seein' as how he owns 37 tractors and farms 40% of Montana,...talking about how Erkel could figure it out but it's a waste of time for a white man.

Have some patience and let the roots rot.

I think it'll grow back before they rot. My intention is to inflict considerable damage to the entire structure before the growing season comes around again.

Dad and I pulled a subsoiler through his garden, which has a bad hard pan, with a Jubilee several years ago. You had to run it somewhat shallow and make multiple passes or the wheels would spin.

I appreciate the somewhat positive outlook on the matter.

I’m sure you’ll get the answers that you seek from the wealth of knowledge contained in this eclectic group of guys. I’ve followed your various “cane patch blues” threads and have enjoyed the back and forth. If you’re gonna be burning a bunch of slash from your various projects I’d make a bunch of different burn piles and sterilize that patch. Rotate the locations of each burn pile and you’ll get the results you desire. Fire is more fun than manual labor. 👍

Good luck with the cane patch.

Just make several passes with the bottom plow set to run shallow.

You may consider having Rimgard installed in your rear tires. Besides adding weight to your tractor where needed, they do this while also lowering the center of gravity which helps if used on unlevel ground. I have it in every tractor i have ever owned.

Kind of worried a cat 1 200 dollar sub soiler would be adequate for rock free soils.....not a cane patch.

What would leaving them to rot some this winter do for ya?

I have heard some horrible stories about subsoiling.

as an alternative, what about a good back pack sprayer, and some kind of good medicine/herbicide to keep the young sprouts sprayed down. about 3-4 times a summer, and keep stuff mowed down? there's many ways to skin a proper cat.
