OK..did you guys start this thread just to make me feel better?

I catch so much crap here for being old ( 67) and I see I'm in the middle of the pack!

As someone has often said " its not the years, its the miles" and Ive been fortunate to have turned my odometer over at least twice...

a man's or woman's heart only beats an x number of times in a lifetime. if not a man nor woman, i have no clue how often their heart beats, as no data available.

when one comes to the end of the number of heartbeats issued at the beginning of the assignment, well that is that.

I enjoy the Bible and philosophy. In the Bible the age of majority is twenty. Therefore I concluded one is a youth for twenty years. God tells us we get seventy years or maybe eighty. So I turned "old" at age fifty despite being able to still jump into the back of a semi truck.

Soooo...all those people that exercise to speed up their heart rate ( i.e. cardio) however temporarily, are shortening their lives? Or are we each issued a different X in the amount column?

My Dad passed last year at 88. At 86 he was still hale and hearty and going strong. Two years later after the loss of his wife, selling his place in the country and moving into an apartment, seemed to bring on a bunch of health issues. At 88 he was frail and ready to go home. I don't know that he gave up but I think all the changes and the lack of activity brought on the health issues. I sure miss him.

Old is when you can no longer do the things you like. Really old is when you secretly hope to not get any older.

i hear ya, loud & clear.

but actually the jury is still out?

that is, some argue that the DNA rules all.

others say that exercise can help us gain an edge.

The big glaring aging factor I can "see" on a person is cigarette smoking. Smokers start looking "old" in their 40's and certainly 50's. 60yr old smokers look older than many 80yr old non-smokers.

Not really a sheep hunt, but I was 71 when I shot my Dagestan Tur in Azerbaijan in 2017. I still apply for sheep and goat tags here in Montana.

Early 60's here, hoping to live to retire at 70. In my 70's I hope to be able to get to do the things that I didn't have the time or money for in my 60's smile

I believe that aging is a combination of luck, DNA and the will to resist. I moved through 7 miles of Wyoming back country yesterday w/ just 2 miles done on a forest service 2 track. I am 72 and didn't move fast but still had a great time. Great weather may have contributed to my progress. Never give up!

i think the will to resist is a subset of the dna basic structure.

walking in the woods and related is never a bad thing.

getting paid for it for some 30 years isn't bad either.

what we're into now is fast emergency responses.

We can learn from our dog; Dogs have no sense of physical infirmities much less dwell on them, they just carry on doing regular dog stuff to the best of their abilities.

71 here. My ol' mama is 101 and still kicking although her kicks are barely clearing the floor these days. She's got a month before her clock takes another tick.
I can still climb a pretty good mountain if there might be an elk up there but I can't run up it any more. I don't have any serious aches or pains but that can change overnight and without warning.
