My son got a nice Buck today. He and I lease some land from my Brother inlaw in Como Texas about 12 miles West of where I live. The buck burst into a field out of some thick scrubby woods. He said the buck acted as if he scented something and started high step trotting toward what ever was exciting him. He shot him on the move with his 6.5 you know what. The rifle is a inexpensive 700 package rifle from Academy. He sold the scope and mounts and we used Tally lightweights to mount a 3.5x10 Leupold. The ammo was factory Hornady Whitetail 129 interlock. The bases and eye guards are pretty decent for around here on this 9 point.

Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.
Ain’t easy havin pals.

Congrats to your son and you! Nice buck! Could you provide any more info on the American Whitetail performance. Did it give a complete pass through? exit hole, blood trail, what range did your son shoot it at? Reason I ask is I am trying to settle on good whitetail rounds for 6.5cm. So many offerings are target rounds and not good for hunting, especially at under 200 yard ranges. I hunt primarily eastern woods. Love the accuracy of the cartridge. Nice shot your son made. Thanks.

My son shot him very close at a little over 40 yards. I was unable to do a a thorough autopsy because we just gutted and took the deer to a processor. The Hornady Whitetail 129 interlock did not pass through, but since I didn't skin him and didn't open the chest cavity I don't know how deep it went. It did blow the top of the heart off and gelled the lungs. The chest cavity was full of blood we had to drain out. The buck made it about 30 yards after being hit
