One small county in the Hill Country used to have the highest incidence of deer-car collisions in the US. As I recall, the last time I checked the total was over 13,000 per year.

We leased property north of Fredericksburg for a few years. It was probably 20 miles before we left the pavement. It wasn’t uncommon to see 50-60 deer at night along the highway. I know there were nights we saw 100-200. Some nights we would just have to slow way down to keep from hitting one and enjoy what we had. They would graze along the road. Hell, they lay down in the road on real cold nights

I read years ago that Fredericksburg was in part of 3 contiguous counties that had the highest whitetail concentration in the country. I don’t know if that’s still the case but there’s a bunch. Seeing 20+ a hunt isn’t uncommon. You guys can keep laughing. I’ll take seeing 20 a sit vs 3 a weekend everytime

Op, I doubt you’ll be living in town or very close to it. Prices have skyrocketed. The vineyard will have a fence around it for sure but there will still be a few that get in.

The lack of public land is why I would never ever and I mean never move back to Texas. Know someone, pay someone one, or buy the land.
