Incorrect. It is not legally classified as a shotgun, and is perfectly legal.

Yes. It's legal. It's a "firearm" designation. Not a "shotgun" designation. It’s not a shotgun. Under a more informal definition, this is the category it would clearly belong to, but legally these are “designed to be fired from the shoulder”, which the Shockwave isn’t.

Those short barreled "handguns" have been on the market for a few years at least. Since they are not designed to be fired from the shoulder they are considered to be a handgun, thus no minimum barrel length is required by the ATF. It would be illegal to remove the grip and add a stock to it.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

The Shockwave has been on the market for several years now , Remington has a version and I think there are some others. FYI , the state of NC does not call it a handgun , you don't have to have a NC handgun permit to buy one. Mike

I don't keep up with shotguns. I have never owned one. Have borrowed one a couple times to go crow hunting and duck hunting.
For some reason, I just am not interested in shotguns.
My brother just emailed me this link to this weird non-shotgun, and he asked if it was illegal and I told him it is illegal. Now I have got him straightened out.
