I have a Remington 700 that has a trigger with a broken shoe from a shipping mishap.
I'm waffling about having the shoe replaced and trigger tuned by a trusted 24HCF gunsmith or replace it with a hunter level Timney, Rifle Basix,...?
Plenty of options but curious to hear some success stories....Thanks.

I'd probably just replace it, simply because it is the fastest option.

I just installed a Trigger Tech unit in my custom 243 yesterday. Couldn’t recommend something more highly.

My thing is to immediately replace the Remington triggers on 700 new bare actions I build into custom rifles, as I did with all my old Remington 700's, 40XB and 788 rifles. For the varmint rifles I use Jewel replacement triggers with the safety, for the 788 I used a Timney. I also use Timney on other brands of rifles including a few surplus Mausers, and find them completely satisfactory. Timney is a good value.

TriggerTech or Timney. I have Timneys in two different rifles and have been pleased. That said I want to try a TriggerTech, https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1020580226

Triggertech, I've got most brands covered including Shilen, Timney, and Jewell. Triggertech then Jewell in that order.

With all the nice rifles of yours I’ve seen in the classifieds, whatever it is probably deserves at least a Jewel. However, I’ve been satisfied with Timneys. I’ve noticed a big trend towards the Triggertech lately. The consensus seems to be that it’s a better trigger

If a hunting rifle, go TriggerTech and don't look back. Don't even waste your money on a Rifle Basix. I had one and it developed creep after 1K rounds due to soft metal in the sear.

Love that Trigger Tech Primary! With the old Remington trigger ( Mike Walker design) even if you got it lightened up, eventually it developed some creep. I used Shilens & Timneys, one Jewell, all were a delight. Oh yeah, I like Kepplinger Single Set Triggers too.

Probably not worth repairing. I've picked up used Timneys fairly cheap. And sold a lot, too.

I got a Timney 501 on EBay, delivered for $105.
Don’t think one could beat that price for the quality.

What I like about the Trigger Tech Primary is the ability to lighten or increase pull via "1 click = 1 ox" w/o removing the stock. when its cold, my old hands have better control with a 3# as opposed to a 2 1/4#! Some guys like to tinker, not me. I do not mess with triggers, and this is so easy it I can do it w/o messing anything up! ha

I wouldn't even dream of paying somebody to 'work' a Remington trigger. Trigger tech and be done with it.

Member "805" has a reworked Walker trigger in the classifieds for $75. They are excellent, I can assure you.

How old is the rifle? If it's the old Walker trigger I'd change it out so fast it would make your head swim. I don't trust them. Even Mike Walker himself didn't in the end. He tried to get remington to let him redesign the trigger. The problem with them is that floating piece between the Sear and the Trigger. It works great until it's a little gunked up or dirty. That's when it becomes dangerous. I know one guy that's had them go off when the bolt closed or when he took it off safety. And he's a professional rifleman for a Law Enforcement operation. He's a sniper. He loves Remingtons but when he buys a new Remington 700 he automatically changes to an aftermarket trigger.
Now if it's made in or after 2006 its that POS X Mark Pro. It's pretty safe but it sucks. I've got some of both. The early X Mark Pros were potentially dangerous too but not because of their design. But when they assembled them they used a compound that they found would get hardened over time and could also cause hang fires like the old Walker triggers. But they had a recall on them and you could send your rifle in to Remington and have it cleaned out. I had one I bought in 2012 but I just took it to my gun smith whom I trust and he cleaned it and lightened it quite a bit. Now its a decent, safe trigger. But it cost me $40, cheaper than a new aftermarket but not as good.
