Use rubber cement on both the top and bottom rings.

Rubber cement will squeeze out. Let it dry and rub it off with your finger.

This is a very, very old gunsmith trick; plus no scratched scopes.

I lap rings, and degrease the base screw holes and ring screw holes and torque all screws to spec. I’m guessing I’ve mounted 50 - 60 scopes and have not had one move. I’m shooting 300 win, 30/06, 7 mag and smaller cartridges.

The ultimate slip-proof, no-mar, no-lap scope ring is Burris Signature. Available in old standard Leupold/Redfield, Picatinny/Weaver and multiple heights.

Before rubber cement there was plain old rosin. It works, never got around to rubber cement.

This- I've done this on several scopes and they never move. Just make sure you get your reticle perpendicular before clamping it down....

+1 on rosin. It's one of the unsung heroes of the shop. I use it in my barrel vise every time plus it is a good casting flux.
