Liberty Valence is on TCM and Jimmy Stewart just knocked John Wayne on his ass. Had forgotten that, cracked me up. Good old movie, saw it back around '63 or so.

I watched it tonight too. “The Searchers” was at least as good IF not even better. I learned tonight The Searchers” was J Wayne’s personal favorite. “El Dorado” with J W, R Mitchum, James Caan, Arthur Hunnicut, Michelle Carey, & Charlene Holt is my ALL TIME fav.

One of my all time favorites because it’s got both John Wayne and James Stewart! Not to mention Vera Miles.
But “The Searchers” is still my all time favorite JW Movie and one of my favorite All Time movies too.
I go back and forth between it and “Tombstone” 🤠

TCM is doing a tribute to John Ford. Liberty Valence followed by everyone’s favorite, The Searchers! I remember somebody talking about making Liberty Valence and saying what a prick Ford was to work for and how abusive he was towards Duke. Liberty Valence on Wiki also tells the story. Even with my military training, I don’t know if I’d take a bunch of crap like that. Ben Johnson wouldn’t. I forget what movie it was, but Ford started busting his nuts about something. He flat out told Ford to “go to hell”! Ben forgot all about it, but Ford didn’t. It was 10 years before he gave Johnson another part in his movies. I love westerns, and these are two of the best. Liberty isn’t on par with Searchers, but it’s definitely a good one with the cast it has. Funny. I watched “McCabe and Mrs Miller” last night. I’d never seen it before, and AFI has it ranked 8th of the 10. best westerns, so I watched it. Boy was it a disappointment. I can’t believe some idiots ranked it over Once Upon a Time or Cheyenne Social Club. Some of these so called movie critics really need to pull their heads out. 7mm

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance was one of the Dukes best movies, but there are some that I like better.........The Searchers, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, Red River, The Three Godfathers, Rio Grande, just to name a few.

Theme song by Gene Pitney was a big hit on the radio. But it was never played during the movie.
I saw McCabe and Mrs. Miller in the first run at the theater in 1971. I thought it was a great movie. I watched it the other night, it really didn't hold up over the years. Not a great movie.

Absolutely one of the best! I love the message that it conveys. The fact that it is in black and white adds to its appeal. I have to admit that for years and years I thought that Tom's last name was "Donovan" when it is plainly "Doniphon" on the gate post.
