I am in the same boat, have been offered a really clean, old [serial 141xx] Sako LR16? if I remember that correctly, for 500 bucks, it has the factory Sako rings with the knurled tightening knobs, it's a 30-06 with beautiful blonde wood with nice figure, I've never had a Sako, and need a good '06 right now, hell, everyone needs a good '06, bluing and finish is at least 97%.
I think I'm going to buy it, have a pile of new '06 brass as well as several hundred 200gr partitions, as said, never had a Sako, but have helped friends work up loads for them over the decades and have never saw one that wouldn't shoot.

Gunner, I believe that is a L61R FinnBear model. I may be wrong. I've seen them around here chambered in 7mm rem mag and 338wm. That sounds like a great deal on that 30-06. Good luck with it and let us know how it shoots those 200's. I'll bet it does just fine though.. All of my 06's love that bullet.. I remember buying 400 from SPS when they were at an unbelievable price of $13.45/bag and I'm down to a few left now. Well, I think I have a couple hundy loaded in 30-06 cases though...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Have only owned one Sako factory rifle. A Left Hand AV in .375 H&H. MOA accurate with handloads. Have owned several LH Sako actions via MRI Mountain Eagle rifles based on the L691 action. Just bought back a custom rifle built on a LH Sako MRI action that I sold several years ago and later regretted. Zero issues with any of them.

I have an L691 in 300 Wby. I haven't shot it much but had it out this morning messing with it. It may be my primary rifle on a Sambar deer hunt in January. It is the last rifle I would sell.

Beretzs, I like the way they look to big buddy, bet it's going to be a shooter.
Labman, You bet, should something happen or I decide against it, i'll set you up with a phone number.
BSA, yes, thanks for the clarification, damn right on the 200gr NPT's, in 300 mags, I've never seen a true hunting bullet fly so well, 500 yard steel is so easy it's completely boring, ii bet you do indeed have a couple three hundred loaded rounds, if I get that rifle, so will I ; ]
The main thing I'm trying to find out, and the reason I haven't already bought it is I cant find squat on serial numbers, trying to make sure it is NOT a garcia rifle.

I’m a vixen, A1 fanatic. Have malimarihimakki I’ve never shot and an L61r. After the A series I’ve never given them another look.
