I have a short action 700 with an after market 358 barrel. I shot two Mule Deer in WY this fall with it. I was very happy with the results. The deer didn't travel far and there wasn't a lot of excess damage. 200 grain Hornady Interlock SP.

I love a 358 too bugger. That 338 I bought off ya turned out to be a dandy as well

200gr TTSX's at 2700 powered by RL-10 are a deer's worst nightmare, the only other thing I have that kills as quick is a 58 caliber round ball belted out by 140gr FFG.

The 200 Hornady and 220 Speer are both great performers in my 358 win.

This is one of the calibers I reload for and I have tried 4 or 5 different bullets in my Ruger M77 358 Win. They include 225 Nosler Partitions and Sierra Gamekings and 220 gr. Speers. I have also tried factory Hornady Interlock's. All have shot pretty well with Sierra GK's the best thus far. I just ordered some Speer Hot-Cor 250 gr sp's and hope I can get the accuracy that some have reported with the heavier Speers.

I shoot 200 gr Hornady IL SPs and RNs over IMR-3031 in my BLR .358 Win. I've been tempted to try the Speer 220 in it. That and the Nosler 225 gr are probably about perfect for the .358 Win as far as weight and penetration. But the 200 ILs are getting the job done and the load established.

Glad to hear it. I sold my Model 70 338 too. Then I got a Moose license in Ontario and I had to have a 338. Once again, I have a 700 338 BDL, but this one is SS and plastic stock. It rained quite often in Ontario and I think the plastic stock might have been needed. (I think synthetic stocks are pure ugly and no matter if they cost $500 or more they are ugly plastic to me.)

I've been loading the 358win for years with 210gr Nosler partitions with excellent results accuracy and terminal on deer and black bear.

We saw 5 cows and no bulls. We had bull licenses. Fishing was good though.

I had an early BLR in 358 - Nice rifle. I thought it was the earliest version. Someone with more knowledge said it was the second version. I regret selling that rifle. A friend said he needed it and I don't think he's ever shot it. That was quite a while ago. On well, he's older than me, late 80's I think. Maybe he just wanted it.

Recently was given my late friend's 358 Win. Model 7 SS with after market blued barrel in custom shop kevlar stock. I put together the loads well over a decade ago with 225 gr Sierra gamekings. Nice lightweight package. Think I'll carry it around for a spring javelina hunt to honor my old hunting buddy Don.

Considering putting together some 180 pistol bullet loads for fun. Think the 200 gr accubond could be an interesting bullet to try too.

Big Joe: you must have some older partitions. Looked at Nosler's site and they are no longer offered. Only 225 and 250 gr partitions.

I’ve had both multiple 358’s, and a 338 Federal.

Although I liked the cartridge (338) shoulder more than the 358, the bullets were too hard and didn’t perform like the 358 did.

So I’d stick with the 358 win for under 250, it’s like a hammer, and you can eat up to the hole...

There's no 210 Partition for the .358, did you mean the 225 or .338 for the 338 Fed?

I have a friend that loads his Whelen down to 2600 ish due to a bad shoulder. He said the same thing a couple of years ago about the SP not doing any excess damage. He switched to the Hornady FTX and he claims that was the ticket. He said his son did and was launching them much faster from his Whelen but he said the bullet was really coming apart really quick. I’ve read online a few places that people are loving the FTX at 2500-2600. Might be worth looking at. That’s the direction I’m looking at with my BLR in 358 I have on order.

I've always had quick stops and no tracking with the 358 and 200 gr Remington bulk bullets. In SP or FP they worked quite well. The FPs are a specialty thing as I believe them to be for 35 Remington velocities. But they stop deer in a boringly regular manner. Be .Well, Rustyzipper
