I'm working on a model 54 30-06 trying to mount a scope . I've got a new bolt handle welded on and now I have to deal with the safety , do any if you know if Timminy or one of the other aftermarket trigger manufactures makes a trigger that has its own safety ,that would fit it .

I don't believe anyone ever made an aftermarket trigger for a 54.
Buehler did make a low scope safety that replaced the factory safety in the bolt sleeve. They are out of business now, but the safeties do turn up from time to tme on ebay; that's where I got mine! It HAS to be the one labeled for the 54; the other Buehler safties will not work.

Someone is making the two piece Buehler safety. I have a left side one on a Mauser. Think they are available from Brownell's but don't know if they have the 54 safety. Seems like the last 54 I had I replaced the safety and the trigger and because of this had to fabricate a boltstop. For some reason I believe the trigger was a Timney with no safety as I almost always use Timneys.

Believe that Timney, and others (Canjar?) made replacement triggers for the 54.
I've seen 54's that have M70 safeties adapted by gunsmiths- one was the somewhat rare "transition" safety, so it was probably a period conversion.
I think that a small steel block had been fashioned to slide into the left lug raceway on inside of the rear bridge.
The block was held inside by the peep sight screw holes and longer fill screws installed.
This block acted as the bolt stop when a aftermarket trigger was installed.
In fact, it MIGHT be included with the Timney trigger.
You might want to give them a call.
