Does any mfg make a extreme conditions- hard use ready to buy factory rifle? One that will work in sub zero- extreme heat- dry sandy- moist muddy weather- perhaps backup irons if your optic fails kind of rifle. Bolt action.... maybe a single shot. Not considering autos.

Centerfire caliber that should take down deer size game. Or bigger.


So. What Mfg? And model?

Other than the iron sights, I’d suggest a Tikka.

Ruger Hawkeye, guide gun if you have to have irons

Back when Winchester’s were being manufactured in New Haven, it is my understanding that their SS rifles were “all” stainless.....every screw, spring, pin, ect. If you wanted the iron sights, I think the .375 H&H Stainless Classic was the only Stainless one offered with iron. Other than the weight, it should be a great rifle! I’ve not studied recent Winchester offerings! memtb

Mod 700 ADL SS (no irons though) an older Mod 700 BDL in stainless has some with irons. Same with a Mod 70 SS. They are out there though. The Ruger Guide Rifle, as mentioned, is stout, but sure is heavy.

The Canuckians chose Tikka for their Rangers or Scouts, whatever they call them. Form has said good things about their reliability as well, I believe.

Being old and contrary, I'd go for a good Mauser with a simple trigger and clip guide still present or added. Some here have related stories about Mauser failures, but without details of the particular rifles, I can't get too worked up about those. There are gazillions of them put there, and a lot have been extensively futzed with, not always by people who know what they're doing.

Right or wrong, my choice for now is a Ruger Scout w/synthetic stock. Mauser action, short stiff barrel, back up sights. A laminate stock might be tougher & they're available as well.

As previously mentioned, the Ruger guide gun with the laminate stock, mounted sights, SS, etc. etc., a big, really big contender.

Sand, extreme cold & the like might be down to a choice in lubricants as much as anything. But again, Mauser type actions have been there & done that.

Speaking of having been there done that, there's a lot of AR's in a sand box as we type. Thinking they might be OK with extreme cold as well.

in all seriousness an older Ruger MK II SS/Syn would be about ideal. those rifles SS was almost polished in appearance. Hunted one in the Interior of AK for several winters and performance was flawless. Took a newer Hawkeye SS?Lam to Valdez on a 10 day rainless hunt and I could not wipe the surface rust off of it quick enough. Was a borrowed Rifle so I was freaking out about every little orange-red-rust spot on it. Hunted my Weatherby MK V Deluxe up there too. That beautiful deep blue finish never gave me problems either. My REM 700 ADL would rust sitting in the closet. YMMV.
