Looks good Jud. I run that same bullet at nearly 2700 out of my 7600 Whelen. It leaves impressive blood trails and is accurate. Buddy has hammered hogs with it and has caught a few like yours. Looks like the 358 has plenty of steam to make them work well.

Cool buck as well.

I use H4895 in my pump and 15 in the CDL. Both shoot well. I’ve used the 225 Accubonds and Partitions in the CDL since it was primarily for elk but I don’t think that 225 Sierra would care either.

I shoot the SGK 225 in my Whelen over 54.5 gr. IMR 4064, an accurate load that is very effective on whitetails.

Or a 358. That bullet looks pretty good for busting a good amount of vertebrae. I have a Whelen but have for some looney reason been thinking about putting together a 358 on a Marlin XS7 I have laying around unused.

Hasn't anybody told you that those Sierra bullets aren't fit for anything but paper punching and barely penetrate through the hide on anything larger than a field mouse?

Nice buck and the bullet is kind of a bonus trophy.

I’ve used the Sierra 225 on a couple of elk with satisfying results, in a .358.

Damned fine blacktail buck, btw! 😎

Jud, nice looking deer and bullet!

I have fired exactly one 225 SGK into a deer from my Whelen. Quartering to shot at about 90 yards +/- on an average sized doe. Entered the onside shoulder, traveled the length of the animal and lodged in the hide at the front of the offside hip. Muzzle velocity was 2630 +/- which would put the impact velocity around 2430. Picture perfect mushroom and decent weight retention.

I caught one in a deer I shot straight on in the chest. Just under the hide in a ham. It was a perfect mushroom.
