I asked my wife what she wanted, "I don't know". I asked what store she recommended I look for that in..

To be blunt, there is not much she does not have. Agreed. Doesn't have to be expensive. I try to make sure it's something personal to prove I pay attention occasionally.

I hate shopping for women. Most of the guys who are on my list are easy. I just get them something I want that they don’t have!  Ladies are terrible in that respect. Carol was bad enough, but Penny really makes it tough. At least she hunts, which helps. But she’s been hunting all her life, so she’s got all the goodies she needs  With Carol I’d have her write down a list, but Penny seems to think I can read minds. 7mm

To be blunt, there is not much she does not have. We have the same problem. When we need something, we buy it. It doesn't leave much for deciding what they "need"... But something you know she'll enjoy will go a long ways Christmas morning.

last year it was the poinsettia as I do every year. A flannel cardinal print nightgown.
The birthdays are a bit easier, I can take her out to eat. That saved the bacon last time.

Second wife, first year we were married, from Sept. I paid attention to every time she said “I want” or “I need” - virtually all horse stuff. Then I went and bought it all, for a hefty sum.
Christmas Day, she opened it all with the attendant “oohs” and “aahs”.
Boxing Day, she returned Every. Last. Thing.
I learned later that it was a symptom of what was to come. After that, she only got gift cards.
