That reminds me of when John Kerry was running for president and decided to stage a photo ops showing he was just one of the "good ol' boys," doing that hunting thing and all that. He went into a sporting goods shop and asked the clerk, "Is this where I can git me one of them huntin' license things?" Then crawled around out in the grass with his borrowed shotgun acting like he was gonna gun sumpin for supper.

Or when Michael Dukakis decided to show how he didn't really hate the military by putting on a tank hat and riding around in the turrent of a tank ... again for photo ops. That tank hat looked more like a dunce cap on Dukakis.

Photo ops quite often backfire on those who think they'll fool the worker peasants.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg joined his father-in-law for a hunting trip over Thanksgiving, an event the 2020 presidential candidate has been talking about on the campaign trail.

In his speech at the Iowa Democrat Liberty and Justice Celebration, Buttigieg said that his forthcoming hunting trip was one more example of how the United States was hungry for change.


“I’ll be seeing it in a few weeks on the morning of Thanksgiving Day, because in 2019 in rural Michigan, you cannot stop a man from going deer hunting with his husband’s father,” he said in front of thousands of cheering Democrats on November 1.

Buttigieg used a similar line to talk about his red-state credentials when he was running for Chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

“I’m from Indiana. And I support the Second Amendment,” he said during the DNC chair debate in February 2017. “I spent Thanksgiving morning in a deer blind with my boyfriend’s father. How’s that for a 2017 sense?”

On Monday, Buttigieg told reporters that he used a rifle to hunt.

“Bowhunting is way past my skill level,” he said according to CBS News. “Rifle hunting probably is, too, but we’re going to do it since it’s Thanksgiving.”

Buttigieg’s husband Chasten also reminded his followers that Buttigieg was hunting during Thanksgiving.

“I’m thankful for a patient and dedicated husband who joins his father-in-law hunting, even when it’s snowing and freezing outside,” he wrote on Twitter.

Anyone who gets linked to this thread from outside the forum should be aware that not all hunters are juvenile bigots.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Pete or anyone else being gay. Pete is an actual genius (Harvard, Rhodes Scholar, speaks 7 languages, plays several instruments, etc) who served honorably as a military intelligence officer and then chose a relatively low-paying career in public service to help his hometown instead of moving to a blue state and becoming a millionaire business executive or a senator by now. He's earned a lot better than the treatment he's getting here from much lesser men.

To look on the bright side, at least these guys are making fools of themselves at home on their computers.
They're not out leaving piles of beer cans scattered around campsites.
They're not out shooting road signs full of holes.
They're not out wounding deer by taking irresponsible shots at running animals from their truck windows.
They're not out spotlighting deer at night.
They're not out shooting humans they mistook for turkeys.

These kinds of guys do a lot of things to irritate more intelligent, hard-working, ethical hunters and everyone else in the outdoors, and being indoors making stupid jokes on the computer is probably one of the places they can do the least amount of harm.
