Four years ago I did a 100 pushup challenge at the age of 56. My initial starting point I could only do 11. Eight weeks later on the final day I did 92 without stopping. I have been able to keep up with doing 50 right along since then. I haven't tried since August when I injured my elbow. Not sure if it would stand up to any pushups right now.
Chronographs, bore scopes and pattern boards have broke a lot of hearts.

I need to do this challenge. Due to some minor foot issues I feel that I’m in some of the worst shape of my life. I did a 1/2 marathon last year at this time and now this year I’m happy to walk a mile. I’ve gained 18 pounds since last year also. Exercise is most definitely needed.

Good reminder for me to get back into it. I can crank off fifty still.which I guess is okay for being 57. I find it to be all about breathing properly. I usually lay dumbells on the floor and grab them because they add a little more depth and my wrists hurt otherwise. I will use the patio edge sometimes too so my head or chin can dip lower.
I made these pledges before and never seem to keep them - doing so many a day for so many days to get in shape by X holiday. Maybe having this thread as a reminder will help prod me off my arse.

Not exactly using this regiment, but in the past, I seem to “hang-up” around 35 ! Consider working in incline and declined pushups and some time under tension pausing near the bottom. I fin that changing the routine (and muscle group slightly) helps to bump out of a doldrum. OP- great post, cool challenge. It’s been 3 years since I retired, same for the push-ups. I got to 24, may have gotten #25, but....I’m a puss, and it was starting to hurt! It’s official.....I am in bad shape! This old age crap sucks! memtb

20 years ago I could do pushups until I got bored. Today, my rotator cuffs would go on strike for a week if I tried push ups.

Wish like hell I would have seen that chart before I read 'if you can do 40 pushups you'll live to be' on the internet, I slowly done 40 pushups three times in as many days, proceeded to pull the left side ribs away from my sternum, so, if any of you old/older guys [57] and still kind of stout and heavy [255 lbs] be careful and go slow, I thought I was having a heart attack one day due to this, had to go get everything checked out at the hospital. Sternum/ribs are better, but not near the same, may have to see a chiropractor and get it all popped back into place.

I'm 65. A few weeks ago I gave pushups a shot. Could get 25 and my arms were rubber. I just might try this challenge too.
