It's a fairly big deal for the area. That steel mill had been opened since the 20's and once employed 7400 people,...and was known for the quality of its rolled steel,...a process that it pioneered.
Imported steel eventually killed it. The company that bought it refines iron ore and plans on using part of the plant for its iron ore production and part of it to produce rolled steel. From the sound of it, it's a great purchase for Cleveland Cliffs iron ore mining company.
It's going to put a lot of people back to work and put a lot of high quality American made steel back on the market.

Lots of comments are made and possibilities hinted at while mergers & acquisitions are being negotiated, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the lights to come on.

This would be a great thing for our area. It was a sad day when they announced their last roll of steel came off the furnace a while back. There are many families who raised a few generations working there.

No surprise that CNN's coverage of that Ashland KY AK steel plant closing, sale and reopening tries it's best to spin it negatively on President Trump.

Last year, someone announced plans to build another steel plant in Brandenburg, about 15 miles from me here. It's supposed to be 2000 jobs worth. Dunno where they'll get the people, Brandenburg isn't that big, but there's a bridge there across the Ohio, so they could draw some folks from Indiana, too. Time will tell.
You can roll a turd in peanuts, dip it in chocolate, and it still ain't no damn Baby Ruth.

People will move in if it pays enough. Toyota built a plant in Scott county and changed Georgetown from a sleepy little town into a small city. People need *real* jobs. They'll have no problem finding 2000 people,...or 20,000 people.

Not good news for the Bolsheviks, less people reliant on government.

I worked for Cleveland Cliffs and currently hold quit a few shares. Given AK's debt, pension obligations, etc I am not crazy about the deal.

If it's like the mills in Johnstown, the huge was supposed to get stuck with the pensioners. The government gave the new buyer a waiver, to create jobs for this generations workforce.
Rammed one in the retirees.
Good? Bad? Indifferent?
Depends on if you benefit, or get screwed.
I see both sides, But, That business made a promise to the workers.
