So at the recommendation of many, I bought my first "Tupperware Rifle" for Alaska (looking at Fll 2021 for moose), a 340 "weathernark" MkV. it is significantly lighter than an Accumark but accuracy wise, these speak for themselves. I topped it off with a Zeiss Diavari 3X9X36... Shots to the side are obviously initial and corrected.

Notice the POIs for all three loads that in my view are indicative of an inherently accurate rifle...

Nice. Mine does about the same with 250 factory partitions. I don't often hear of Mark V 340s that don't shoot some load very well.

The 340 Weatherby is a monster! I used to use one on my yearly trips to British Columbia for free-range Black bear hunting. It absolutely flattens the biggest Bears.

Nice shooting Jorge! Think I’d stick with the 210 TTSXs.

For bear as well, John? I figured the 225s would be a happy medium ?

I’m with John, so far nothing has slowed down a 210 Partition from a 338 for me and the TTSX should be better yet. That 210 TTSX has to be moving out of the 340. Congrats on a great shooter.

I took a 340W ( custom) with the older 210XBT over 82gr H4350 ( 3200 in that rifle) to South Africa and Namibia. My rifle was an MGM ultralite ( 5.5# before scope) it killed wonderfully, but it also killed its own scope! It had one of those godawfully loud, holes all around brakes. The action of the rifle being "braked" was the culprit. It mimicked the affect an air rifle piston has. Killed a Leupold 2.5x8 then a Zeiss 3x9. I finished the hunt with a 300WM/180 Barnes. So, keep a sharp eye on your scopes "zero" if your 340w is pretty light and braked! smile Its a beautiful round, isn't it?

Jorge,
Yes, I think that 210 is all you need for any bear or moose. The speed which you can push it will help with the expansion and overall effectiveness, plus it seems to be super accurate in your rifle. I've always been a one bullet per rifle type hunter and with the Barnes you can get by quite well by dropping down a weight class or two. I've married my 300Wby to the 168 TTSX and it's been a truly impressive performer on elk and deer. When I had my old 33 G&A, basically the 338 RUM in factory form, I used nothing but the 230gr Fail Safe and it was truly impressive on brown bear, elk and deer! Your 340 isn't far behind it and had they made the 210 TTSXs when I had the G&A I'd have switched to them when my supply of Fail Safes ran out.

Thanks, John and fortunately, I have LOTS of 210s on hand and NOOOOOO muzzle brake!

They irritate the hell our of me at the range. Frankly, I can't see how recoil is an issue and the need for those damned things in ANY caliber. This is a 7lb rifle more or less and it's really quite manageable. As a post script, John the 225 are also a ragged hole the two groups of the the side were prior to scope corrections/fouling shots. Given all things equal accuracy-wise, you would still go with the 210?

What's especially annoying to me is a short barreled 223 with a loudener on the end being operated two benches over by a guy shooting cheap ass ammo as fast as he can pull the trigger. I double up on hearing protection but the blast sends pressure waves through my sinuses, not the best thing for my concentration.

Good shooting Jorge, I have one big WBY left here on the farm, a wildcat when it was first built around 1992, it's on it's second barrel and will still heave 300gr 338 cal Accubonds at 3000 fps into a ragged hole, built on an old Mark V 460 action. smile

LOL, no, believe it or not, I saw a silly kid carrying a 20 inch barreled 460 WBY around the Tulsa gun show with his right arm in a sling, I bought it for the action, knew what I wanted to build, and in those days that was about it, had never heard of the 338 lapua then either.

Sold the stock on shotgun news? for nearly as much as I paid for the rifle, gave my Smith the barrel, he screwed it to a #3 Ruger for laughs ; ]
