They saw the writing on the wall. Brick and mortar stores are struggling across the country. This is a sign of the new retail business models, not a act to destroy a town. I've seen it around where I live, but people realize that things change, and sometimes not for the better.

Cabelas was doing fine until the merger occurred. Scheels is still doing fine.

Cabelas is ruined. They no longer have any quality products- just a bunch of chitty redhead stuff. The one in Phx today had no decent guns and no high end clothing. The only draw is the trophies on display. I have a couple of friends that do >$200K a year on Cabelas cards with their businesses. They have dumped the cards and gone a different direction. They can't even find anything worth buying. Scheels and Sportsman's whorehouse seem to have a good thing still going.

I used to buy regularily from Cabelas but hardly ever do now for the same reasons others have mentioned. I spent some time on their site today trying to find something to buy to burn up the rest of my Cabelas bucks and be done with them for good. I used to be able to find Scenar component bullets and they had nothing. Not much selection in reloading components or scopes, but I did end up buying a clay pigeon launcher / trap - something I've been considering for a while. I think it's safe to say this will be my last purchase there.

Worst merger ever!!! However, in fairness, once the brothers turned it over to the bean counters, the decline began.

I agree with ya'll. Was at bass pro the other day for the black Friday crap and they had 2 out of the 5 things I was there for. Nothing in stock no water proof clothing. almost no waders. 130 mile drive and it will be the last time. I went to Sportsman warehouse and they had the waders at the same price as basspros sale and that was their regular price. Still need new waterproof cammo pants. Basspro did know where the out house was tho…..

It's sad what has happened to Cabelas. However, the one in Owatonna has a load of used firearms. Common stuff, weird stuff, milsurp, something for everyone.
