Does anybody here know of any specific issues related to '16-'18 Chevy/GMC 1500's?

I'm headed out in the next few days to buy my wife a new-to-us pickup. Going to be a crew cab, short bed 1500. Locally there are what appear to be decent deals on a '16 and an '18 GMC specifically. The truck it's replacing is an 06 Chevy same setup. We bought that with 20 some thousand on the odometer in 07 and it has been an awesome vehicle. But now with 200,000 more miles on it things keep popping up on it. Going to keep it for a beater, or maybe give the kid. It still runs well enough for a fair weather truck, but in winter around here she doesn't feel confidant in it anymore so I'm going to indulge her. She's not the kind to fuss or spend money, so when she asked for a new truck for Christmas it ain't outta line. I really like that old truck, no bullchit traction control, etc. No way to avoid that anymore unfortunately. I just don't want to keep sinking money into repairs to keep it at tip top shape.

To save typing later, yes, it's going to be a GM. No jap vehicles on my place, and I've never been a fan of Ford. My one Ram pickup, while I love it, has been plagued with issues that were it not for the lifetime warranty would have seen it down the road a loong time ago.

Thanks,

Jason

Not really an issue but if it’s for the wife you may look at the v6 300 H.p. option if saves considerable money on the front end .

Wife's primary daily driver, but not just a grocery getter. Still expected to be able to do yeoman's duty (firewood, hay, the odd trailer load etc.). I'd prefer another 3/4 ton, but with 60-70 miles a day minimum the extra fuel consumption not worth it. A guy can get a lot done with a half ton.

I've got a 17 silverado 1500 crew cab Z71. It's been just find except the factory Goodyear Wrangler SA tires it came stock with. I've got 44000 miles and just replaced them with a little more aggressive tire.

It has pretty darn good gas mileage. Drops to 4 cylinder when it can without issue. On long trips from NC to WV if I use cruise control I average 23 mpg. Since I bought it, the average on the computer says 20 point something.

The 5.3 has plenty of power but the throttle response could be better in my opinion. Once you get on it though its got some impressive power.

All in all I'm pretty happy with it. No issues so far.

We have had several Silverado trucks, configured that way as farm trucks over the last few years. All have been good, no problems. Average about 20 mpg on mostly highway driving. All had the 5.3 liter V-8

I've been cruising the lots with the deals they're giving this month, also wanting the 5.3. Looking to go back to a full size from my tacoma. Tundra MPG crosses that one off the list. Drove one (GM) today, not use to the pedal, spun the rear tire a bit, has some power. Hope I find one, prices are depressing.

Ended up getting an '18 GMC. Pretty stripped down basic trim package. But it is a Z71 with the towing package. Basically the same truck, but with a lesser interior trim. Other than wishing I could ball punch the idiot that mandated traction control, it seems to be a pretty nice pickup. Way peppier then the old one, she was getting kind of tired I guess. Less than 30k on the odometer, rides/drives like a new pickup. The seat and steering wheel are less comfortable than the old one, but the wife likes it and it seems like it'll fit the bill. Haven't hand calculated it yet, so it doesn't really count, but the computer is claiming 20 mpg.

Soon as I can come up with the scratch it'll get a bumper/grillguard upgrade.

Thank you.

Lots of folks buy/sell/trade their vehicles quite a bit. I tend to buy and run it's wheels off, so it's a big deal here when I take the leap and buy another rig. I've 5 in the driveway now haha, but only paying on one. I'm a bit of a hoarder though.
