Saw a lot of deer but not the big buck I was after. Let lots of deer live!

I follow. The old ones get rather smart around here and don't offer up many chances.

No they don't. Game cam pictures revealed some monsters moving late at night.
They are too smart to be roaming around in the daytime unless thery are in a hard rut and acting foolish.

Was hunting in the Athens area.

I flubbed a good pic yesterday AM.

About 6:00 AM I was going along this road and NOTHING was there around the fence.
I went to a small cafe and got bkfst to go and came back the same way.
As I passed this light pole I saw a fawn hanging upside down on the fence. frown

I stopped, backed up and got out of the road. I could pick the deer up but could NOT get the hind leg unhung at the same time. The post had ONLY penetrated the hide and membrane immediately inside. There was NO blood. smile
I was taking a pic of the deer in my headlights when a truck came along and I flagged him down. I pushed the photo button AND waved at the same time.

This guy stopped and I picked the deer up and he got the hind leg UNhooked from the post. Deer left like shot out of a cannon. grin ALL was good.

Later I checked my photos and ALL I got was the GROUND!! mad

Today I went back and stopped and took these pix. Here you can see hair and membrane on the top of the post, no blood.

I AM so disappointed to miss that scene. I tried. smirk

Guys I've hunted Ark, La, Miss, & Al. and there are scenes like those ALL THRU the South and especially in Paper Co.
Land, ie. Pine Plantations, Creek Bottoms.

I've hunted Pipe lines, Power Lines etc. in ALL of those States.

I gotta ? for ya, puah. How much time did you have to use a Range Finder, Read a Chart, Twist Turrets, & THEN shoot?

Most of the time it's identify, aim, shoot!!

Thanks Again

Jerry

How much time did you have to use a Range Finder, Lots of time for this. One feeder was 250 yards then following post was 280, 370,
Most were 200 and under.

Read a Chart, Twist Turrets, & THEN shoot? I know my dope for my 280 out to 500. No need to dial. Use the reticle.

Most of the time it's identify, aim, shoot!! Agreed

Thanks Again

Somehow I managed to pry myself off the couch and hunt some geese. Weather wasn't the best but made due.

MCH,

Great pics of your goose hunt! How will you prep those breasts for the grill?
Never tried goose. Seems like it would be pretty strong. Any grill instructions would be appreciated to.

Hell yeah MCH! Looks like a good pile of meat!

I like goose. Marinate a little, cook it like a steak and slice it thin. Tasty stuff.

Hugh: Clean all blood, shot, etc out of breast. Cut a pocket in the breast starting from the side. Stuff cream cheese, jalapeno, cream cheese, etc. in breast pocket. Wrap bacon around breast and secure with tooth pick. Slowly cook on grill using indirect heat to avoid flare ups.

I smoke them or make jerky out of them. I seldom cook them but when I do just like beretzs said. Careful not to over cook.

Some of the best jerky I have had came from a bunch of sky carp. Best way to do em up for sure.

I haven't shot anything since 11/14, a nice 9 pt that weighed 170 +/- lbs.

I have passed on several Does and small bucks.

I'm focused on this guy !!!

Right now our deer are Nocturnal. I'm seeing them GO into cover at first light and then AFTER dark.
It's still a few days till the Full Moon. The only chance I have is IF he is on the move BETWEEN hot does.
