Today I was told Jesus was born on 14 Nison, I think that is the date. She also told me Christmas is a pagan holiday and has nothing to do with Christmas.

When is 14 Nison? And how do people get so stupid as to not notice the number of nativity displays this time of year?

From what I remember from theology class some scholars think Jesus was born in September. A lot of what we think of as Christmas (“Yule”, Christmas trees and dec 25th) actually comes from Germanic paganism. Even “hell” wasn’t the original biblical term but where the Germans thought those that didn’t make it to Valhalla went

NIsan is an Assyrian month that corresponds roughly to March-April. Jesus was not born then.

The early Christians did not celebrate Christmas,. They thought Easter was important, for obvious reasons. After 300 years, they decided to have a holiday celebrating Jesus's birth. But they did not know when that was, according to surviving records. They picked the winter solstice to compete with the Roman holiday of Saturnalia.

But Christmas is decidedly NOT a pagan holiday.

The contention that Jesus was actually born in September comes from the "shepherds abiding in the fields with their flocks." Right after the harvest, shepherds were allowed to enter the fields so that their sheep would glean any spilled kernals and manure the fields. They were not allowed in before the grain was harvested and afterward there would be no point. So they would have "abided" there in late September, as that's when the grain was harvested.

Don't blame me. I voted for Trump.

Well, yes, and no ringman. If we believe in our hearts we are celebrating the birth of Our Saviour, I hope it sits well with Him.

I believe Christmas coincides with the festival of Sol Invictus the unconquered sun. Those ancients watched the sky pretty close and were celebrating that sun was returning. The days were noticeably getting longer.

My wife has forbid me buying and sending Sol Invictus cards for our holiday greeting. They are available

Let's stick to the point. He had to be born so He could die for our sins.

You mean you didn't know Christians highjacked 25th December from the pagan European solstice?
pagan Romans also had the big Saturnalia winter festival, which extended to 23rd December.

Read somewhere a while back that He was likely born mid fall, based on some of the circumstances described in the nativity story. I believe that scientists and astronomers place the nativity star that time of year in the year 4 or 5 BC. I wish I could remember what I was reading, I lose the sources, but seem to hang on to the info.
Important thing to me isn’t the date, but the fact that He was born, and the fact that He’s alive!

My understanding is not hijacked but used the time to celebrate while the Romans were busy with there own festivities

Why are people so stupid as to include the wise men in nativity scenes?

and they also seem to know precisely how many wise men there were
[without Bible actuallly telling the number].....lol

christians have made much up along the way over two millennia to suite their own narrative.

Blame Constantine for the December co-opt. The eventual RC decided to use enthusiasm for already established public holiday(s) in a redemptive way, more than just Christmas. TV show several years ago pointed out there's always been two Christmases - religious/"church" and the office party debauchery ones. German traditions via Prince Albert/Queen Victoria popularized many of what came over to America as traditions at Christmas time. (Yule logs and many "Easter" celebrations originated in Babylon. ) The Messiah's birth may not have been in winter, but recognizing He came is important. Resurrection Day has been the foremost church celebration from its beginning.

The date for Christmas was the same date as Sol Invictus (Roman Feast day) which was also the Winter solstice on the Roman calendar.
