I love me some 600-660 Remingtons. One of my favs is a 1953 Mannlicher Schoenauer full stock carbine in 257 Roberts with a 2.5x8 Leupold. Svelt!

Right there!

Lightly loaded .308 - thinking 30-30 class bullets - making it a fun to shoot and quieter piece.
With power in reserve for when it’s needed. Perfect for teaching newbies and pros alike.

243 here.

Wouldn't mind looking for a clean specimen in 308 loaded just as you describe for woods whitetails.

Have a few short barrels and a fair number of long ones as well. Run 18" to 42" and don't care much what they have if they shoot.

I’ve got two. Maybe not mild though unless loaded down. 30-06 M742 Remington Semi Auto and a Model 600 Remington in 308. The recoil on the 06 is more a push from the gas operated action but muzzle blast is loud and with slower powders looks like a blow torch!!! The 600 recoil is pretty stiff......

Not a classic..But the Howa Mini Action in 6.5 Grendel 20” lightweight is a very handy and light shooting rifle. At some point will put in a Boyd’s or Brownells laminate stock.

I also like the Original M1-Carbine. Although the caliber is not much of a hunting caliber, sadly.

I'd like to see one in 41 Mag.

For me the Holy Grail is an original Winchester model 71 Deluxe carbine.

Really? I have a Win FW M70 308, 20" barrel in a McMillan Edge (ultralight) stock. It weighs 5 pounds 15.5 ounces without scope. With an 8.5 ounce Weaver 1x3x20 and rings, it weighs 6 pounds 11 ounces. If you have one that weighs 6 pounds all up, please tell me what you did to get it that light. RJ
