Dunlap Riggers/carpenters axe. Removed the 13" handle. Had a loose head that was beyond repair on a 36" handle, so I cut that off, shortened (23 inches) and reshaped so it would fit the eye of the rigger's head and reshaped the knob, and reprofiled the edge.

A handy 'do it all' little axe.

The next one I'll remove the nail puller and reshape the edge to a little more 'crescent' shape.'

Nice!

I'm far from being anywhere close to a pro at replacing and shaping a handle, but there is something dang relaxing about doing so.

I have SO damned many axes and a whole bunch more heads and handles waiting. Not because I need that many, but I truly enjoy doing it. I have a sweet looking Adirondack handle just waiting for the right double bit head.

Shout out to a Shinto rasp, that thing is a wood removing SOB. Also Bahco bastard files.

I love making 'different' stuff. I have a Collin's hatchet head (1.3 pounds) on a 28" handle. As with the riggers, I had to remove a LOT of wood to get the head to fit. But that head on a 28" handle is a fast swinging SOB and makes short work of smaller trees. I love it.

Oh, if you want to get 'good' at it, do a few Jersey heads. Those fuggers will test you.

Girlhunter: I bet that is indeed a handy tool to have around!
Good job on your refurbishing.
I am in the midst of cleaning and re-handling a fire fighters Pulaski firefighting tool/axe right now myself.
Thanks for sharing.

Looks like the perfect camp axe. If the nail puller can be used as a bottle opener, it would be

I paid $10 for the Dunlap had and repurposed an old axe handle. Add $1 for the walnut wedge and I'm into for $11.

I see so many people lining up to pay big money for something that just takes a little time.
