For me just all around use where weight isn’t a concern

Mont bel 0* bag w stretch panels, nice to be able to move as I’m a restless sleeper

Backpacking TNF Cats meow 20* bag under 3 lbs synthetic insulation

Traveling the country via snow machine this time of year TNF Dark Star -40* bag

Had the pleasure 🤦🏼‍♂️ Of sleeping under the stars around -30 in a Cabelas bag rated for that temp. Like to froze my azz off

Used the heck out of a Kelty 0* bag when guiding and it served me well, but always was in a tent

I have one of those, have not used it below 0 yet but I can't zip it all the way up or it will run me out of it, around 15 above. not surprised it fades out at advertised min. temp.. I use it for car and tent camping out of a kayak, it weighs about 1.14 tons when dry.

A waxed canvas bed roll, fill inside as needed with wool blankets. Have been down to 0* inside tent with no issues.

Mountain hardware. Keeps me warm and comfy. Not too confining as I toss and turn all night

Wiggy's for synthetic, I have 3. Western Mtn. Antelope for down. If I were shopping now I would be looking at quilts. When I was using them a lot they were the best available. I don't think much has changed except for greater availability of high quality goose down and improved baffling/sewing techniques.

Almost all bag makers these days use a standard developed in Europe called the EN rating. Another common system is the ISO rating which is nearly identical. For all practical purposes, the EN rating isn't where you'll be comfortable. It's closer to the temperature where you'll still be alive. Buy a bag rated 10 to 15 degrees colder than the temps you expect to encounter.

I used one of those 3D cabelas bags for a long time guiding. Came home a year or two ago and told my wife my sleeping bag must be getting old because it wasn’t keeping me as warm as it once did. And that maybe I needed a new bag. She looked at me and in her best snarky/sarcastic voice says: “yeah it’s the sleeping bag that’s getting old.” 😝

Marmot Pocket Gopher -20 w/Gore Tex membrane. Going on 25 years old and still works. Course, I only use it 1 week a year in elk camp where we sleep cold. Rest of the year I like the old GI Mountain mummy bag. Weighs a lot but takes a beating.

Yep copy that on gettin older

I use to think it’d be fun to go out on Saturday nite and get in a fight 🤦🏼‍♂️

Sleeping on the ground has as about as much appeal as that these days and here I start a thread on sleep bags 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️

When I use to think winter camping was the best thing in the world a guy could possibly do I had a Woods Arctic 5 Star Minus 50-Degree Sleeping Bag. You could just toss it down in the snow in the middle of a blizzard and sleep comfy all night. Pretty much indestructible...all 20+ pounds of it.

Then I switched to SlumberJacks. All comparable sleeping bags seemed to be made of about the same materials but I liked their warranty, lifetime, no questions, free replacement. I had to use it twice, pretty easy, just cut a chunk of the bag out that contained a part of the zipper, stuff it in a envelope and send it to them, worked just fine both times...

When I decided I would rather have a bag that didn't fall apart and didn't need such a warranty I switched to Marmot products. Both their tents and bags seem to be of higher quality than most..

Fleece bag liners are nice for keeping a bag clean and adding a few R's of insulation.

Navy bag. It has kept me warm on many cold nights.
Probably the same bag the army uses. It sure, but it kept me warm as hell

The biggest canvas flannel lined bag Cabela's carried, rated -30, all 20lbs of it.... After years of lightweight mummy bags it is heaven
