Can anyone tell me what the $550 difference between the VX6 2X12X42 w/ fire dot plex and the VX5 2X10X42 with the fire dot plex is? I plan to put it on my 7mm-08 and a 300 yard shot is pretty long up here in my area. Thanks

Are you talking VX-5HD and VX-6HD? If so I think they are pretty much the same scope except the 6HD has an reticle level indicator feature and comes with ALUMINA FLIP UP LENS COVERS and a THROW LEVER for the power ring. The 5HD has a really wide PLEX with a little thinner lines than the standard Leupold PLEX. I have seen pics of the PLEX in the 6HD and I believe it is heavier and not as wide a PLEX as the 5HD. I think it has the same plex reticle as the original VX-6.

Thanks. Yes, the VX5 HD and the VX6 HD. I guess what im really wondering is if there is any appreciable difference in the glass quality between the two.

Begs the question "Why do you need a Hubble telescope if 300 yards will be a rarity?"

I have a VX-5HD, in 2-10X42 on a .30-06.

At 2X, FOV is wide enough to see the end of the barrel, glass is fantastic. CDS ,so far, has been good.

It now remains the only Leupold in service on a rifle that can be dialed, the rest are Nightforces and Super-Chickens.

You can get your job done, by Leupold for less than those 2.......might suggest a VX-3I.....

Personally, I think the 3 series glass on Leupold is very good.......now if I want better, I will probably look at a Euro...that's just me.

I have a Swarovski Z3 as new in box with all papers, BRX reticle, 3-10x42 if you would be interested. I don't currently hunt areas with long shots. Not sure what you were looking at on the high end Leupolds, but know they get pricey.

One thing not mentioned is the zoom ratio, if I can be Captain Obvious here. Just a feeling, but it seems like there have been more complaints about the original VX-6 than the VX-5HDs. My own 2-10x42 has been trouble-free so far, and has pretty nice glass to my eye, as well as great low-light performance. It spent time on a .308, then moved to my FC 6mm. Total of maybe 300 shots. Hope it lasts. For the price, I'd pony up a bit more for an SHV, but mine was won in one of Doug's drawings.

A VX-3i 3.5-10 was also very nice, but sold to finance something else. No drama from either while sighting in. Might go with a Meopta Optika now, since Form has already beat one as hard as I might, ever.

I’d rather staple my sack to a door than buy another POS Leupold.

Shv yep over and over again. Leupolds failed me over and over can’t except junk even if it’s got a life time guarantee.
