Neighbor, who has two boys, came to me asking what rimfire scopes to buy for his boys' CZ 452's. I haven't bought a rimfire scope in decades. He's looking for a decent scope to be used for plinking and small game hunting. Last rimfire scope I bought was a Leupold. I don't think he's looking to spend that much especially since he needs to buy two.

Recommendations?

Some people will scoff,.....but I bought one of these budget priced 4X scopes several years ago and I've put it on several rifles. It's now on a Kel-Tec SU16. I put it on the .223 Kel Tec with the intention of switching to a higher grade scope in the future. But I've got it all dialed in and I hate to switch it out now.

They have decent eye relief,... clear all the way to the edge, and it holds zero very well. Its focus adjustment works very well, also and they're fairly light weight.

If I was going on the hunt of a lifetime or if I thought I was going to have to use a rifle for self defense, I'd probably go with a higher grade scope. But for general purposes, these are very nice 4X scopes for the money.

I've paid a lot more money for scopes that I don't like as well as these. They should function very well as a .22 scope.

I shopped around a good bit and finally went with a Hawke Vantage 2-7x32 for my 22. Not too big a scope, is bright and tracks well and has stood up to semi auto plinking for a little while now. After settling on which ammo it has made me fall in love with the rifle and appreciate just how accurate the thing is.

Seems better than what I paid for it to be.

Also,...the CZ452 has an 11mm scope rail. Some of the better rings you will find in 11mm are designed for high grade European air rifles.

These are very good rings for the money,...11mm dovetail for a 1" scope.

I bought one of these Burris Droptine 3-9X40 with .22 Balistic Plex reticle a few months back and have been very impressed with it. I plan on buying more to replace other rimfire scopes.

Thanks for all the feedback so far. He asked about this Bushnell scope, mentioned he received an email notice saying one of the online vendors had them on sale: https://www.bushnell.com/products/riflescopes/prime/prime-riflescopes-3-5-10x36/

Seems similar to the Burris only a little smaller objective. Burris has always treated me right (no knob twisting)

I usually use the Warne rings but ordered some of the ones Bristoe linked to as stocking stuffers. Thanks!

The Sightron S1H 4-12x40 AO is a good scope for around $150

The Bushnell A17, 3.5-10x36 AO is a good scope for around $50 from CDNN.

The Weaver RV7, 2.5-7x28, and RV9, 3-9x40 AO, are good scopes, but I think that they have been discontinued.

EDIT: I prefer to use the B-Square Weaver adapters, or the cheaper Chinese knock-offs, and whatever height of Weaver-style rings is proper to keep the scope's objective from touching the barrel. The inexpensive B-Square Sport Utility rings are, IMO, pretty good rings for around $5 per set.

Not all CZ 452 models have the 11 mm dovetail, the CZ 452 American has a 3/8" dovetail.

Scope choice - I would go with the Burris Droptine for the reticle with holdover dots.

223 Rem, my favorite cartridge - you can't argue with truckloads of dead PD's and gophers.

I got that same scope. I have not put it to use yet, but the glass is quite good and if it is up to Burris standards, it'll dial right in and last forever.

My squirrel rifle(455 American) has a Nikon 3-9 rimfire with adjustable parallax and a target dot reticle. Not too small that can’t be seen hunting in the woods close to dark, yet allows for precise aim. Love it

They are like 125-150$ Normal I believe. Bought mine for 99$ on sale

As 260Remguy said, the Bushnell you mentioned can be bought from CDNN for $49.99.........Bushnell Rimfire Scope. I bought a couple of these to try and they are much better than I thought they would be and I'm a Leupold/Burris rimfire scope person.

I have Weaver RV9 3-9x32 AO's on several rimfires but as mentioned, have been discontinued. I just bought a Burris FFII 3-9x40 from Midway for $159 which wouldn't be a bad choice if it fits the budget. The FFII 2-7x35 has pretty limited eye relief but works well on rimfires and might be me choice today.

I ordered one, but sent it back. Decent optics, but terrible eye relief and FOV.
