He was a great guy. Sometimes a little off topic, but who among us isn't. I normally get several PM's from him around holidays or hunting/fishing openers. I bought a beautiful, Model 70 custom from him in .338 Win mag. I know his first name was Al, and I believe his last name began with a G but I can't swear to that. He is the guy from New York that lost 100% of his belongings to a flood a few years back. He was at the Savage fest in NY in 2007. I have a phone number for him but it's out of service. Any help would be appreciated.

There is an email address in his profile. Have you tried that?

Very sad news. I didn't know him, but my condolences to all those that did and called him friend.

Sorry to hear this about Al. Met him at the first SavageFest I attended at Jed's. He stayed at the same motel I was in. One of the good ones.

First met Al at the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara on the Canadian side. Second time was at Savagefest II [Jed and Lulu's wedding] obviously on the American side.

An avid, bright, passionate Savage collector. RIP

April 20 was just 6 days after he was last on the Forum. frown

Everyone should put a note in their will to notify the Savage guys on the CampFire upon death. I'm sure there have been many that have died in the last 20 yrs that we have not know about.

Till later Al...

I've thought the same thing, Rick. You laugh, joke, poke fun and share with folks everyday and don't know how old they are or their health conditions, unless you get lucky and meet them in person. I was texting Yooper about a mint EG he had in 250. Sometimes a couple weeks would go buy, then a month, then get a response, on both sides. Then they stopped. I didn't realize he was 85 till one of his last texts that I received. He said he was selling off his collection so his wife didn't have to do it. He passed shortly after that.

RIP, Al, Yooper, and the rest of the good guys that have gone home.

Leave a note to notify us when you punch out please.

I'm so sorry to hear this. When I got a Model 99 in .300 Savage, I mentioned it here. At the time, ammo wasn't available but brass was. Crowmagnum asked for my address and sent me RCBS dies for the .300. I had no idea that he was doing that and I wanted to pay him afterwards but he refused. He was truly a great person and I'll always remember his generosity and thoughtfulness.
RIP my friend.

Yes he was. He had everything, he lost EVERYTHING including his marriage due to something beyond his control. Give up ? It wasn't in Al.s character. He put all others first right till he passed. I drove to western NY to pick up a rifle because I didn't dare to let it be shipped. That good was repaid several years later when I had ANOTHER great fellow drive FROM NY to give me my pristine .308 99EG. wink wink wink wink
