Well everybody, I am graduation High School this June, and I am gonna work two jobs this summer to save up for college but im also gonna save up for a nice new rifle. I really like 35 caliber guns and I just happened to notice that Remington came back with the 350 Rem Mag this year, it sure looks like a sweet rifle. It looks like it packs a nice punch for bigger game, such as elk, moose and bear. I have read quite a bit about it, but i havent talked to anyone with real experiences. Has anyone got any hunting stories, or info on the 350 Rem. Magnum?

It's a fine round but was hampered by the light/short m600 it was introduced in. 18.5" barrel + 350rem mag = big muzzle blast & recoil... by the time Remington fixed their error, the 350 was branded. The new m673 retains the vented rib & shark fin iron sites, which I view as a huge disadvantage. Sure it'll whack stuff dead, but goll dang it's ugly! I begged them to chamber the Seven Magnum SS in 350, but nope, that would be too logical a choice for a shortmag cartridge that you would like to see succeed. If a clean stainless rifle is more your style (as is mine) a 338wm m70 or m700 would be at least as effective- plus the added availability for 338wm ammo and components.

Young Hunter,

I was in your enviable postition once and that was 1957. Enjoy yourself and follow thru and buy a rifle like you planned. I did the same on an assembly line making portable typewriters.

I bought a M 70 in .243 and used it for positition target shooting and long range varmints. This was a very good choice and I still have that beauty and it has a new barrel on it now as you might guess.

I had a Remington 722 that my dad got me when I was 13. Once I got the M 70 the 722 was not as good as it gets.

Not much has changed in 46 years has it except for the typewriters?

Now that I just spotted that we are not far apart as I am in CT I will add that I got a .358 Win in 1966 and that was a lucky rifle for me. I have shot a lot of game with it and it's a sentimental favorite. I did get a .350 Rem Mag long ago when Ruger made some in the 77 and a little spike ran out away from me and the damm rubber recoil pad caught under my arm and I let it go rather that let a wild shot go. Later that same buck came back the same day! This time I had the .358 M 99 and one shot later it was venison.

I shot a buck in South Paris, Me with the .358. That was one of the closest shots I ever had at maybe 10 feet.

Hearty congrats, YH. I'm still grinning about your ability to go full-auto on bruins with your lever action. If .35s are what you like, then, as we all know, you NEED one. Best of luck.

Congrats!

I graduated 2 years ago. Have you decided on a college and major? I stayed in state at MSU-Bozeman cause I love Montana and didn't want to leave my mountains--also couldn't afford out of state college. Still don't know what my major is going to be, most likely PoliSci or English.
My graduation present to myself was a Remington M870 Wingmaster Magnum 12 gauge. So while I don't have any experience with the .350, I do have experience with graduation presents. Go with what your heart desires. If you don't like it you can sell it but you will never live down the "what ifs" if you decide to go with something different. Besides, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...how else do you explain the predominance of Glocks these days

Talus, Thanks Well that darn bear wouldnt go down, and jeez those little marlins can really spit the lead. And yes i do love those 35s, its somethin about that big hunk of lead i guess.

RemFan,
Thanks for the congrats!! I want to major in Wildlife Biology, and i have narrowed my college choices down to Unity College, and University of Maine. Im really leaning towards Unity though, cause they have an awesome program, and i could get certified as a teacher and certified as a park ranger while taking my Wildlife Biology as a Major. They are both in Maine and like you I really dont want to leave my home state anytime soon. I actually almost applied to MSU Bozeman, but it was a little far away for my liking. Yeah i actually dont think the new 350 is that bad looking.
