We were blessed with our first grandchild, Carter Jay, on Christmas Eve @2:01pm. I suppose I should go ahead and buy him a new rifle now to put away in the safe. smile

Great reason........ Now the question is; "What to get him?"...... A kid size .22 "first rifle" to start out with or a centerfire he'd never outgrow.

Congratulations! The rifle will mean more to him if it is one of yours. So get him whatever it is you want him to have, but use it like its yours and shoot it with him. Then when the time is right give him your rifle. It will be priceless to him...Got my first grandson this past May. I'm working on his rifle now.

A good 10-22 or maybe a CZ527 in 6.5 Grendel before some reason they quit producing them . Neither one would a kid ever grow out of or be too much for a youngster to begin shooting with.

Sorta in the theme of the OP, several years back, I bought a Simpson Ltd import 1939 Husqvarna M146 that was once owned by a fella named Carllson in Boras, Sweden. He had small brass plaque with his name and place where he lived inletted in the butt stock. A few months later, wife's niece in Germany birthed a son and name him Karlson. On that day, he became the heir of that rifle.

Congratulations on the grandson and my compliments on that name. It's a dandy.

Maybe a nice CZ or a Marlin 39A. Better test fire them for a few years to make sure they're OK before you give them to him. grin
