Time for the answers. Sorry to say, of the answers submitted, none were correct.
1. B. Arthur Savage bought a deer license for the 1893 New York
open deer season and it was during that deer season that
the .303 Savage drew first blood on a big game animal.
2. D. The first bullet fired from the .303 pierced both ears of
the deer.
3. B. The second bullet blew off the jaw.
4. D. "A softpoint to the throat finished the animal"(3rd shot)
5. F. The range of the first two shots was 200 yards.
Bonus question: B. The deer was a doe. But also note that there was a second deer allowed on AWS's license and he killed a buck, which, "was hit in the spine and killed instantly." The third animal to fall to the .303 had a name: "Taurus", "an immmense slaughterhouse bull, was then sacrificed at the alter of commerce." "Shot in the forehead, the bullet demolished heavy neck bones and came to rest near the kidneys." "A group of Adriondack guides, assembled to witness the display, stood slack-jawed at the penetration and destruction wrought by such a tiny missile." I'll bet Les feels pretty validated at this point
