Nice shooter, folks would be jealous of that gun at the range or out hunting.
As said, it's the second version of the Savage 1899 model 250-3000. The first version had a perchbelly stock (the bottom of the buttstock was fat on the bottom like a perch). That version was made in 1919 and 1920.
In 1921 that model was renamed the model 99G and was available chambered for more cartridges than just the 250-3000. That was made up through 1941.
“ The Savage 99 Pocket Reference”. All models and variations of 1895’s, 1899’s and 99’s covered. Also dates, checkering, engraving.. Find at www.savagelevers.com

Real nice rifle you've got there. Would like to find that here locally, and if I had the money would buy it in a second. Might send the lever out for case hardening, but wouldn't be a pressing issue. Looks like someone did a nice job restoring that one.

Nice rifle. The Type 1 that was made before WWI also had a checkered trigger. This was the only rifle (1895, 1899 or 99) Savage made with a checkered trigger. The other models made before WWI had smooth triggers. After WWI all models had serrated triggers.
wyo1895 With Savage never say never. For a copy of my book on engraved Savage lever actions rifles send a check for $80 to; David Royal, p.o. box 1271, Pinedale, Wy., 82941. I will sign and inscribe the book for you. [email protected]
