Love it Tom. Congrats. Please let us know what you think of the meat if you don't mind.

Will do Johnny. I threw a couple bites into the frying pan while butchering this critter..eye of round ( not necessarily a good cut) and fried quickly ( not necessarily the right way to cook it).....wasn't bad!

Exotics are fair game in Texas..but the land is 98% private, so they come at a price...

Way to go, Tom! That’s a real nice one.

Thanks Bob!

I figured with the rain you guys got and the good mast crop that this would be a good year to find a good specimen. I saw a number of nice ones, bertter than Ive seen in the past, but the one I shot got it cause he was starting to crown out...never seen that in a Sika before...

Ingwe, excuse my ignorance.

What do you mean by crown out?

The tips of the antlers start to form a bowl...or "crown" Common in big red stags, not so much on the lesser species .

Oh I see. Thanks. Is this the same Sika they have running around in the swamps in Maryland?

Very nicely done! I shot a girl version of that a few years back. It ate well enough. Not blow your mind good, but good. They are neat critters.

Ingwe; Not an important question but do you know what sub-species of Sika Deer yours was? Size wise I would wager Manchurian (based upon my very limited knowledge)

Thanks GRF

Not sure...commonly referred to as the Japanese Sika.....but that doesn't make it right...
