After reading the posts about bore tech coating, had a thought. Do coated bullets, like from Missouri Bullets with "Hi-Tek coating work in similar fashion to help prevent fouling in barrels? Or is this another concept altogether? I use them in .357 lever rifle at about 1600 fps mv and a .45 Colt in another lever gun at 1050-1100 fps. Thanks for reading.

Chuck Connors was really a lefty. It seems like any kind of coating would come off in the barrel.

Hi-Tek Super Coat molecularly bonds to the bullet during the curing process, totally encapsulating the bullet. The coating prevents lead to bore contact and virtually eliminates lead fouling and the smoke normally associated with traditional wax type lubricants. Eliminating the need for messy wax lubricants, your Hi-Tek coated bullets assist in keeping your hands, breathing air, reloading dies, and gun cleaner. As an added benefit, the smooth slippery Hi-Tek coated bullets feed very well in most bullet feeders.

Both Hi-Tek and powder coating protect the bore from direct contact with the lead bullet. I have used both on my own cast bullets, but prefer Hi-Tek. Even though you have to apply 2-3 coats, it's about 1/3 to 1/2 the thickness of powder coating. Very important on bore riding rifle bullets as only the driving bands get sized after coating.

I have obtained equal accuracy to traditional lubed bullets with coated bullets once a load is worked up. You can also shoot a slightly softer alloy like paper patching. One thing that these coatings can't do is keep a barrel from leading if the bullet fit is not correct or barrel/throat has defects. A sharp, rough throat or a barrel with thread choke will lead no matter what with cast.

I have good luck with Missouri Bullets coated pistol bullets. Much less leading even at velocity levels that normally caused leading.

I'm not a cast bullet guy, but I found the thread fascinating...especially the choice and benefits of the color...green!
