Creeping dementia is one of the effects of Ms. Rondstadt’s degenerative nerve disease. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

Some of the best composers and performers of all time have been off the rails socially and politically - and some not at all. Not all great performers utter loony thoughts and statements - some do - LR is one of those. Memory tells me that many if not most of her family elders in Tucson were fairly conservative and probably Republicans - business folks, hardware and such maybe - but from the time she got out of HS she was pretty much single focus, She did whatever necessary to get her songs and become a big time performer - left a few loyal buddies in the ditch along the way. She was one fine singer in the styles she chose - good rhythm and a keen way with the tune and lyrics - her own little quirky style was quite good. later on she did a fine album or two of standard show tunes and ballads - with full orchestral backgrounds - well done too. But - always somewhat selfish, and a kook. This latest stupidity is ridiculous.
This is recorded in 1977. I saw her perform this in 1976 at the Seattle King Dome, as a opening act for the Eagles.
There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self. -Ernest Hemingway The man who makes no mistakes does not usually make anything.-- Edward John Phelps
Stone Ponies were her early (maybe earliest) band backup and I think none of those were The Eagles - please correct me if I'm wrong there. Once she got well into the recording aspect in LA, she started hiring some or all of the Wrecking Crew for studio sessions - I think she dropped the SP's for the most part after that. My memory may be messed up there too - that was a long time ago and much more important stuff has come through since then.
