I recently purchased a 6X10 trailer to haul my lawnmower and an ATV in the future.
I thought it was going to go through my side gate and be able to be secured out of sight in my backyard.
As luck would have it, Trailer is 77" wide at the wheel wells and gate opening is 77" wide.
It's going to have to stay on the side of the home, visible from the road until I can find a better solution.
Have any of you used a wheel lock device to secure the trailer?
Something like these below?
Option #1
Option #2
Other options you have had experience with?
Thanks in advance!
Happy New Year!

Get one of the long padlocks and lock the hitch in the closed position.

Chronographs, bore scopes and pattern boards have broke a lot of hearts.

A heavy chain threaded through the spokes of the wheels and padlocked is good protection.

I use a coupler lock like this on my boat trailer:

I currently use your Option 2 but think Option 1 would be much more secure. I also have a coupler lock, similar to the one shown with Option 1

when parked out front of my house I use a logging chain and a military high security lock wrap around both axles and around a telephone pole

Widen the gate. In the meantime, buy a length of 3/4" steel round bar (like concrete rebar, for instance) long enough to pass through the spokes of both wheels. Weld a square plate on one end, and make a sliding plate the same size to go over the other end with a hole drilled for a heavy padlock to secure the movable plate. With both wheels unable to turn, it's difficult to move the trailer any distsance without a LOT of effort. It would take a few minutes with a cutting torch to steal it. Adding a coupler lock would be an added layer of security.

Hook at 110v wire to the trailer, don't forget to flip breaker before you use it.😁

I have a few trailers that don't get used but a few times a year.
I just pull the tires off and roll them into the shop.
The tires don't get the sunlight deterioration and the trailers don't get stolen.
Takes all of about 15 minutes to be road ready with the help of a rattle gun.

If someone really wants to steal a trailer, a padlock for the hitch pin will make them just chain the hitch to a bumper. Same with the ball locks, but will slow the thief more.

When I first read the title, I thought a boot is going to be best.

Good luck.

Lots of stuff.

The best security is deterrence.

Put a motion light, and an easily seen exposed outside camera (even fake) looking at it. Thieves look for that stuff.

Put a beware of dog sign on your house, even if you don’t have a dog. Dogs bark and create attention. Crooks don’t like that.

This is a start.

A cut resistant chain ran thru the wheel spoke on each side to the trailer with a padlock that is also resistant to a bolt cutter securing it is a good as it gets. This will keep someone from just hooking up to the trailer and driving away. Now if someone really must have your trailer a portable grinder with a cutoff wheel will defeat that or most any other device but a lot of noise will be produced in the process, and thieves don't like noise.

Battery powered grinders and sawzalls have made about any anti-theft device they can make pretty vulnerable.

I've seen some really nice boats destroyed when they sawzall the transom out to steal the outboard locked to it.

Lock the hitch for now and widen ones gate.

Where there is will there is a way. Local rancher went to his kid's graduation and was 250 calves short on his return. Had them in a lot near the highway and about 3 big rigs must have rolled in and out without notice.

They're now held in a lot about 2 miles from pavement.

Sounds like a rough neighborhood there. My neighbor stopped this AM and commented that I had left my keys in the Land Cruiser out front. My response was "they've been there for the last 35 years."

Build little stanchion supports. Jack up the trailer, put on supports and take the wheels off. Can't steal something that won't roll.
An electric or battery impact wrench makes it simple to do.
And keep the wheels in the basement with the lug nuts

Bolt cutter fixes that.

No, the trailer. Duh. Do you not remember him saying something about fixing things?
