Just curious, why not go lightweight barrel like a 1 or 2 for a walk around rifle. That's what I did on my 223AI and it is perfect for a walkaround rifle in a McMillan Mtn rifle stock. Couldn’t agree more. #2 in a MR is perfect IMO. photo hostingWe drive deer and I shake like Michael J. Fox so I require some mass up front. A #2 contour carries easily and balances well. Only reason I haven’t bought a Fieldcraft is because I figure it’s not muzzle heavy enough for me to shoot it well. Build specs? Sorry I just saw this. 700 SS SA blueprinted Holland recoil lug #2 rock 1-8” @ 22” with .75” shank in 243 win Triggertech McMillan edge MR stock bedded PTG bottom metal Sightron Big Sky 4-16x42 Leupold DD

Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

Parts are started: Ordered up a 700 SS SA from Midway and a #3 Bartlien 7 twist. Going to flute the barrel chop it at 22 or 23”.
We will see how the pocket book stands after Christmas and see what we can order next. Did you order from Bartlien or did you find some in stock somewhere?

It's a walking hunting rifle. WTH would you recommend a detachable mag system he clearly doesn't want or need?
OP, stay on course.

Lots of good info on this thread, but if one had a nice 8 twist in a mountain rifle contour that would finish @ 20” would it be worth going Creed or would it be better suited for a .223AI?

I shoot every chambering cited and a bunch, that ain't. Hint. Congratulations?!? I'm a 6BR Slut at 20" and don't have any slower than 8". Hint. Though I only have (3) 224 Kreedmires and (13) 223AI's. Just sayin'. Hint...............
