I have one of the early stagger feed Stevens 200s in .223. It has the old style Savage trigger (non-accutrigger). It has to be one of the worst triggers on a factory rifle. The trigger won't adjust to anything below 4 lbs. Is there a spring kit or afte rmarket kit that I can install to make it lighter?

I know there are other after market triggers such as Rifle Basix and Timney. However, I don't want to put a hundred+ dollars into a $200 rifle.

I have an older Savage 116 with the same trigger the Stevens has. While I replaced mine years ago with a Rifle Basix, I can't find a spring kit on any of the websites for those triggers. I honestly can't remember seeing a spring, but that was 15 years ago I replaced the trigger. I would try removing the spring and going to my local hardware store for a little softer spring.

After a short internet search, I found this https://gunblast.com/Stevens-200.htm

I am thinking that the trigger spring is an L shaped wire. If so, go to Walmart and buy a $1.00 buzz bait. The wire on the buzz bait is a smaller diameter and will allow a much lower trigger pull. Just cut the wire to match the shape of the factory wire. I have done that on at least a dozen rifles.

Piano wire has always been recommended over on Savage Shooters.

I also understand that the newer accu triggers will not fit a Stevens M200?
