Octopus balls. Fantastic bar food. And no, not 'nads. Flour batter and octopus chunks cooked in spherical molds.

Treated myself to a little hardware before coming home. The camera I used on this trip is now relegated to beater status, but that's not a bad thing. I'm about due to lose a camera in a hunting, fishing, storm related, urban or drinking accident... wink

And that's all, folks. Thanks for looking and the kind comments. If anyone has the inkling to visit Japan, I'd strongly encourage it. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed, going hungry and certainly not being bored.

Cheers.

Thanks for putting pics up. Looks like a marvelous trip. I work weekly (from the US) with the Japanese and find them to be terrific colleagues and hope work sends me to Tokyo at some point.

Good call, and that's exactly right. My wife spent some of her early years in Green Bay and has fond memories from that time, but never could figure out even in her tender years why almost all the people she met during those formative years believed that the whole universe ended at the county line. She once asked me why some folks' vision seemed to literally end within a few miles of where they were born. I told her that I wasn't sure, but that my best guess was that there're some folks who will never be capable of believing that there's anything beyond where they might venture to in their lifetime within a tank of gas and a limited understanding of the fact that across the globe there are other countries, cultures, people and experiences that will forever be beyond their understanding and wildest dreams.

Good eye, but slight correction: the pic you refer to is not broiled hamachi-kama, AKA yellowtail collar. It is in fact maguro-kama, or broiled bluefin tuna collar.

Leighton;
Happy New Year to you and your ever smiling wife sir.

Thanks again for sharing your trips with us, I very much appreciate the composition as well as the education.

As you know, a few years back now our eldest spent a couple months traveling Japan - we both got a laugh at her "mystery ocean protein" description of some of the street food vendors - and your photos brought back memories of that trip she took and the photos she took.

The extreme care taken with the cooking never ceases to amaze me, however I am not sure I could deal with the human density one finds there, so the photos are likely as close as I'll get to enjoying a fascinating culture.

Thanks again sir and all the best to you folks in 2020.

Dwayne

Thanks for that correction, I'll have to find and try it.

But for some reason, I don't think I'd like it as well as yelllowtail, although I love seared maguro.

Maybe not my man. Over the course of 7 days just bopping around the city we logged 47 miles and change (been on a diet and have one of those gadgets that records physical activity stats and biometrics). I did put on 4 lbs, but I'm calling that muscle mass... wink
