I've put a Lyman tang sight on my EG, mostly because gnoahhh said he only knew of one person that poked an eye out. I can look over the rear sight but it is kinda in the way. Like the idea of a rear sight for close and dusk, dawn hunting. So how do the shooters here use their tang sights? Blank in the barrel, folding rear sight, of look over the stock one. Did savage make a folding rear sight or just source one? What should I look for, if anything? Pictures and explanations welcome. Thanks for the effort.

I remove the rear sights and put a blank in if I have one around. Savage didn't make folding ones that I know of, but sold them on guns, I *think* they were all Lyman folding sights and the only one I know of for sure is a 6B leaf sight but I'm imagine there were others. I can look in my books later if no body posts before. What is the date range you're looking for?

damnesia, my rifle is a 1952 EG. Something about that time period that would be found on that rifle is what I guess I'm looking for. Loggah that Marbles sight is very nice but is it to early to be logically on my rifle? The sight blank is probably the way to go but then I would lose the rear sight for early and late hunting

Depending on which Lyman you have, you can remove/unscrew the whole aperture and use the ghost ring early/late (2A, 30 1/2), or on the 1A and 29 1/2 the aperture is fixed but the inside can be folded down to use the larger hole.
Savage started putting a fold down rear on the model 99Fs 1959; I think it is the Lyman 16. That would be relatively close, time-wise.

Marble still makes the #95 and a folding leaf rear. See marblearms.com.

Thanks for the info Keith, my sight is a 2A. The Lyman 16 is something I'll look into.

And the plot thickens.......Any pictures of this sight? Would that be used by the Savage owner in 1952? how hard would one be to track down? Sorry about all the questions. Sometimes I think i'm a little OCD.

I just use a dremel to cut the sights off. Easy peasy.

Fireball, you've got to step away from the dermel tool before it's to late.

Fireball, Keep the Dremel fired up as I feel a new project coming on, starting with trees I haven’t yet cut down..

I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.
