I carry on old SKS sling in my vest or pack. Only gets put on when I'm hauling something out.

But I'm not hunting open country...hunting the woods of the Northeast and a lot of times my target is well within killing distance the second I see it...and often times I have seconds to kill it from the time I see it....no time to have a rifle slung in any fashion.

I might put a leather sling on a classic blue/wood rifle if it was a looker and not a hunter, but I do not have any of those rifles. I hunt all of mine including the blue/wood ones. You could not run fast enough to give me a leather sling on a working rifle.

Levy's, Montana, and Vero Vellini all make some excellent slings that I use depending on conditions.
I have an old Bianchi cobra sling that has a pouch that I like when going far from home as there are always, always a couple of rounds kept in the pouch. Saved my bacon on a moose hunt many years ago.

I've bought two Montana slings in the past year - brown w/nickel plated swivels for the 1895GS, and a black one for the McMillan-stocked M77 Tanger.
Can't see me buying anything else.

I have two neoprene slings I like to use, both made by Beartooth Products Inc in Bozeman Montana.

Mountain slings if you plan to remove the sling while hunting and Montana slings if you don't.

I've used various leather and padded fabric slings for almost 50 years of Western and international hunting. They all want to slide off my shoulder.

Last week I went to the International Sportsmen's Expo in Denver and bought one of those thermoplastic rubber "Ultimate Slings" from Specialty Outdoor Products. So far, just walking around the house wearing several of my different hunting coats, there isn't any slippage on my shoulder.

Synthetic, non-slip and stretchy. I have no use for my old leather slings.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
