They pick Florida as the #1 spot to retire. I'll admit,...Florida is nice and warm. But they rank it #2 in affordability.

I've looked into property in Florida a couple of times,...and the price of a piece of property isn't obnoxious. But if you're anywhere near the water house insurance is a *hit*.

Alabama and Georgia are the new North Carolina.

This is the word on the street in the NY/NJ metro area.

AL and GA will be purple in 10 years, and gayer than Austin TX in 15.

Colorado is number 2. I live here and I don't believe it. Californians have been moving here since the 1970's. They're trying to f*uck it up, but so far they have made only minor downgrades. State politics are controlled by the communists, socialists, and liberal elite, in the Denver/Boulder area and they passed a ban on high cap magazines, a red flag law, and elected a queer as governor. Excuse me, he's openly gay. Don't want to miss a chance to be PC.

Fortunately we have an ammendment to the state constitution that requires the state to balance its' budget so taxes are reasonable at this time. We used to have a bill that required any tax surplus to be refunded to the tax payers (TABOR). But they just repealed that. So now they can raise taxes. We have to see how that plays out.

Every street corner wide enough to contain them has one or two beggars panhandling. Lazy parasytes, bums, tramps, diseased and addicted criminals have been infiltrating every secret corner where one might assemble a hidden camp. Excuse me again. The PC word is homeless I think. They pollute everywhere they go with trash and filth, and start wild fires with their campfires. Even here where it's pretty cold in the winter, there are over a hundred empty beds in the shelters because even on the coldest nights, they won't follow the rules and give up their dope for the night. The cops say that there is a problem with street gangs. But we don't see much of that except for the occasional drive-by shooting or gun battle resulting from a drug deal gone bad.

The mountains are great and beautiful. I even appreciate the beauty of the plains. Skiing is the best in the world and hunting and outdoor recreation opportunities are abundant. But it's a long way to the beach. Housing costs are reasonable and schools are pretty good. Unemployment is consistently below the national average. Well maybe we're not all that bad. But #2 in the nation? I doubt it. If Colorado is #2 then the rest of the states must be really messed up.

Wind in my hair, Sun on my face, I gazed at the wide open spaces, And I was at home.

Georgia, but not Alabama. They use to be close to the same, but not anymore. Lot of difference in the 2 states.

North Dakota! ~ But you have to been born here to appreciate it - and never been elsewhere.

Best place / worst place - It doesn't make any difference.
No matter where you go - There you are!

I appreciate North Dakota because we have only 600,000 people in the whole state. We got a winner folks. Also the fact the 40 below keeps some of the Schitt birds out. Ed k

KC Same problem here in MT and specially Missoula with the "Homeless". I try not to go into Zootown much. But I have to fly out to work so I have to see that crap regularly.

Considering the tidal wave of people fleeing California these days, the only thing better than being ranked last in places to flee *to* is being ranked lower then last.

The last place you want to move.

I grew up in ND. Moved to Alaska in 1968, age 20. Never looked back, but nothing against ND. It's a good place, with good pepes.

Alaska is several times bigger, and has fewer than 800K people, over half of them in Anchorage/ Mat Su.

No comparison to AK tho. we are probably rated well down in the charts, but it all depends on what you like and can afford.

2018 had us at 578, 000. We’ve got way too darn people as well......I’d love to see us below 500K, like it was prior to around 1995! memtb

Very surprising that Kentucky is that low on the list in terms of "Quality of Life" don't really have time to delve into what all went into that, but I would bet I could live a high quality life there.....

I cant believe Wyoming is #5, that survey is FUBAR. Really, Wyoming? Cold , windswept, barren, desolate, miserable place. Why would anyone want to move there when they can go to Idaho or Montana?

TABOR is still there, but gutted by local governments getting a vote to keep excess. ( taxpayers bill of rights, taxes cannot exceed inflation plus growth)There are " fees" on all sort of things.
People dont get that the quality is diluted by population. I70 is a parking lot. A local shortgrass prairie is Aurora run, but when I asked about going down to see the 1 room school, soddy, and teepees they are owned by the Denver botanic gardens and there is a $3 fee per person.
There are plans for 25000 homes east of me.
Quality is measured by Starbucks and maybe by [bleep] on the street

They have us in Idaho at #9. It shows #13 in affordability. That's changing fast. Housing is going nuts, especially in the Boise area.
