From the start of this thread, I had the impression that Wise99 had a lot more experience with Savage rifles and ammo than was presented confused wink

Sorry Steve, I really was thinking that you where pulling our leg and this whole post was a set up.

Sam, If you like savages, pull up a chair and read for a while, lots of people with lots of info here. Its like a big happy one room school house. Great teachers and fights out on the playground. And some of us just hang out making farting noises and shooting spit balls.

Is it just 'coincidence' that 1899Sav has (miss)spelled 'calibor' for caliber in previous posts and Wise99 started this thread with the same misspelling?

I vote: Stever=Sam

That is Commemorative, made in 1970(an 1895 in Name only), it is still just a 99, the real 1895 only came in 303 Savage, had a cocking indicator on the bolt, marked thru it. That POS is worth about 600 bones, a real 1895 if it were in that condition would be worth at a minimum of 20,000, and yes, that ammo in those boxes is worth big money. Please, do yourself a favor educate.

There are no stupid questions, thats how you learn. You want to see some pics of 99's go over to my site at Savage Lever Actions of North America and go to the pictures section. Les

Go to www.savagela.org and hit the pictures section. You'll see real 1895's, there were only about 5000'ish made. You'll also see all the other models.

Then head out to some of the internet auction sites and check out the price of old, original ammo. Yup, it costs.

Then hang around and enjoy the knowledge you'll pick up here.

I'm sure you realize that there are two 1895's by now?Right?
The original and the commemorative. The later has a bad rep for quality. Most here don't care for them for that reason. It's like Madonna trying to be Marilyn Monroe.I'm glad your here.I'm looking better all the time.Ha!Ha!

So if the guy at the show had a real 1895 as he said
and was asking i think it was less than 6,000,,it would be a good price yes?

Prices for any collectible Savage depends on condition and lots of other factors such as special features or barrel config. A half-octagon/half-round 1895 brings more than a normal round, and a 95% condition rifle can bring a LOT more than a 70%.

$6000 is definitely in range for a good 1895.
