Picking up a featherweight in 308 soon and looking for scope/mount ideas that maintain the classic styling. I normally run Talley lightweight rings but for this one I was thinking some Leupold dual dovetail bases and rings would be a better fit. As for a scope I have a VX3 2.5-8x36 that I was going to use for a different rifle but seems like it might be a good fit for this set up or maybe 2-7 VX2.
Anybody have any other opinion/suggestions and maybe pics as well?
Thanks!

I think the Talleys look just fine. Here's my FWT in 6.5x55 with a Meopta Meopro 3.5-10x44:

I used to prefer the Leupold dual dovetails in gloss for their classic looks. However they have since started engraving the modern Leupold “L” in the top of the rings and its awful. The smooth cap was mucho better.

I think the Talleys will look fine and the 2.5-8 is a great scope.

I went with the Talley steel bases and rings. More of a classic look I think, which goes well with a FWT.

For me, m70 classic options would be Leupold DD's or Weavers.

I’ve found the Leupold 2.5-8x36 to be perfect on a 70 FW

The smooth cap was mucho better. Those “L” rings are an abomination. I have cruised eBay for NOS rings for the past couple years so I never have to put the “L” brand on one of my rifles. Whoever came up with that needs to sweep the floors for a few years before being allowed back in sales or marketing. To the original poster, Leupold DD’s and something in the 2-7 range would be perfect. Being a short action, you are not limited by tube length.

Top rifle is a 7mm-08 with a VX3i 2.5-8x36 in Talley lows.

I'm a fan of Talleys for function but think they lack a bit when it comes to aesthetics.

Another option I like is Weaver/Warne steel bases with Burris Z rings and use that on a post-64 M70 FW 270 (with a Burris 3-9x40 which is a little big on that rifle). I went with Talley steel on my pre-64 M70 300 H&H and a FXII 6x36 which seems perfect on that one.

They don't look very "low" I think its just the nature of a 1-pc base/ring setup, but a Leupold or Redfield base with low rings is a tad bit closer to the barrel. That being said, I have a Talley low set on a 700 Mtn Rifle, and the height is perfect for me (with regards to cheek weld).

The Talley lightweights come in Extra-low. I think they would look better with a 36mm Obj. RJ

Most of my pre 64 M70's wear talleys and I don't mind the look, plus they work well with the 2.5-9, another real nice option is conetrols, which I have on my 300 H&H.

Talley rings are a “classic” look IMHO.
For functionality, I prefer a Picatinny rail and corresponding rings. I know it has that “tactical” look, which can seem incongruous on a rifle with blues steel and walnut stock, but it works.
If you like Talley rings they are a good choice.

I have three featherweights...
1 in 7 mm Mauser, one in 6.5 x 55 Swede and a 223..
the first two wear Leupold rings and mounts with 3 x 9 Leupolds on them..
the 223, wears a 4 x 13 Nikon, in Leupold Rings.. which I think fits it well..
if I changed anything, it would be trading the 3 x 9 on one of them for a 2 x 7 Shotgun Scope from Leupold.. heavy cross hairs..
the two 3 x 9s.. one has heavy cross hairs, and the other has a Heavy German # 4 reticle....
