I mention on another thread I'm getting rid of a Win M70 25-06 and replacing it with a 264 win mag. Just wondering though, what about rebarreling the rifle and opening up the bolt? Rebarreling is fairly straight foreward but how much of a pain would it be for a gunsmith to adjust the bolt? Anywhere I could buy I new bolt if need be?

Yes, it can be done, but you will be so much further ahead in time and money if you just sell the 25/06 and buy whatever 264 you are after...

Not necessarily. I believe Douglas will open a bolt face for a small fee as part of a rebarrel.

Might need rail work too. At $100 an hour, it adds up quick. I'd trade up, though a .25/06 will kill anything I'll ever run into.

Rebore to .270 or .280/.280AI.

So with Douglas we are at $570, plus the $50 for opening the bolt face (if they will even do crf); plus the inevitable trip to redneck to make it feed right ...
Or he can sell the 25/06 for $750, and pick up a used m70 264 for close to same, or a new 264 ss fw for $950 ...
If he is planning to rebarrel anyway that is a different story, but if he is just looking to get into a 264, I’ll maintain my position.

Yes, perhaps. I just remembered they did it, not the pricing. Unless there’s some very specific reason to use that rifle it would be easier to get a new one. Bunch of enablers we are!

Thanks for the advice guys. Everything considered though, I think I'll probably just get a new rifle. I don't like the stock on my 25-06 and picking up a new rig gives me a chance to uprgrade all of the at once.
