Another gun head I know picked one of these up recently and I never knew 35 Whelen was available in the older M77s. Are these scarce? Hopefully I will get to see it this week.

As a .35 Whelen fan that's one I hadn't heard about, must not have been a high production number. I owned a NIB .358 for a while and foolishly let it get away from me.

In the very early 90s Ruger made one run of Whelens. As I recall the twist was on the slow side. I almost bought one a couple times then but never did.

Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

Not a bad looking gun, to much gun for me though. Another guy is trying to buy it from him already, said he's going to shoot it a little bit before he does anything.

I bought one new about thirty years ago. Mediocre accuracy with cast or jacketed bullets.

Had one several years ago. As others have stated, mediocre accuracy, didnt shoot near as well as my 700 or even my 7600 Whelens. Traded it off for sonething else. Also had a tang safety version that I never got around to shooting before I also traded on something else.

I have a tang safety version. It shoots as well as any of the other Whelen's I've
had and ironically with the same loads that I use in my rebored 760:-)
around 2480fps w/250gr. bullets

I have the tang safety M77 RS in .35 Whelen. Accuracy is just fine with the loads I've tried. Accuracy is about equal to my M700 Classic but not quite as good as my custom Mauser. The M77RS usually runs about an inch to1.25" with full power 250 gr. hunting loads. That's more than adequate for big game. I didn't buy it to shoot varmints. You don't need 0.50" accuracy to hunt elk or even deer.
