The mystery remains. How do they avoid killing dozens of spectators with every race?

Only the slow over weight ones get the dirt nap.

Those older Volvos were built like brick schit houses. They had the highest safety ratings going in the 70s and 80s mostly because of the brick schit house part.

Didn't think Pintos were that fast.

Pintos were made shaggin, can’t be racing a pinto. Not with them explosive rear bumpers they had.

A Ralph Nader required "safety feature"?

My wife drives a Volvo XC90.
Things built like a tank. I drive an F350 to try and counter the gayness. But it's a safe ride for her and the kiddos.

I owned Volvos for 20 plus years... put a lot of miles on every one of them...

they were a strong vehicle.. read that as safe...notice on the OP's Video Post, each crash shown, the passenger compartment stayed in tact...a lot of those wrecks where the cars were rolled, all they needed was to be rolled back over on the their wheels, and I bet they would have been able to take off again...

Volvos are like Subarus or any other car... sitting on the lot for sale, they don't have a choice in who buys them...
just because nuts like Tree Huggers, Gays etc like to buy them, have nothing to do with the car or car company's fault..

Volvos were great cars...and penny per mile, where one of the cheapest cars on the road, all things considered...

If they were still making 1980s 240 Volvo Wagons ( like they made VW Bugs for eternity), I'd be driving one..

Well built, reliable as hell, and ran for a long time...they don't owe an apology to anyone for that..

as a consumer, they were a GREAT dollar value...

When they started buying more and more technology from Japan, I think they started going downhill...

I love Volvos from the old 444s, 544s, 122s, 240s...never owned on the the XC70s Wagons, but with all wheel drive,
I sure wouldn't mind one of those if I could find one with low mileage...

Yeah, good, strong durable cars the older Volvos. I had one for a while years ago, a 144GL, mainly for my then girlfriend to drive. It was a good sound car. Not a rocket, but easy to live with, especially when my temperamental Jaguar and my temperamental Guzzi were out of sorts.

Here's another which I've always liked, a 122S, getting a bit of a workout around Tasmania:

My mom had a Turbo 240 back in the late 70's. Great car. I'd like to have one now.
